Wahkiakum Eagle-February 1999 CLARK, Clair 'C. L.' Age 73, died at his Puget Island home. He was born at Tillamook, Ore., the son of Edward M. and Vera Leach Clark. He was a lifelong resident of Puget Island where he attended schools. He served in the Navy in WWII South Pacific theatre from 1943 -1945. After leaving the Navy he owned a logging business for several years. In 1950 he started commercial fishing in Egegik, Alaska, and in 1969 he began processing the fish as the Big Creek Fishing and Packing company. He retired and sold the company in 1984. He also operated a cattle farm on Puget Island during his working life. He enjoyed bird hunting, raising pheasants and his bird dogs and playing cards. Survivors include Carol Brodie, his friend and caregiver; his dear friend and companion of many years, Judy Ostling; four sons, Mike Clark and Gary Huber of Puget Island, Lennie Clark of Seattle and Larry Lindsay of Longview; four daughters, Jackie Fraser of Zillah, Margaret Whittle and Martha Backman, both of Puget Island and Marilyn Wilt of Castle Rock; a brother, Edward Clark of Nak Nek, Alaska; five sisters, Jean Roose of Oregon, Patricia Minard of Hillsboro, Ore., Betty Roberts of Vancouver, Elsie O'Neal of Portland, and Nancy Trott of Puget Island and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Dowling Funeral Home Wednesday. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
