Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-January 2003 CARROLL, Hermina Ella Age 84, died at her Skamokawa home. She was born in Moulton, Tex., the daughter of Frank and Julia Robec Michalec. She had lived in the Skamokawa area since 1948 when she moved from Turlock, Calif. She was a wife and mother who worked on the family dairy farm, drove milk truck, school bus and was a contract mail carrier for 28 1/2 years from Skamokawa to Rosburg. She received the Pony Express award the winter of 1989-90 for her efforts when the major slide closed SR-4. She retired in 1999. She was of the Catholic faith and a past member of the Skamokawa Grange. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, crocheting and knitting, and especially her family and doing her mail route. Survivors include two sons, Chuck of Spokane and Dan of Hazel Dell; two daughters, Dorothy Smith of Astoria and Evelyn Carroll of Skamokawa; three brothers, Jerry Michalec of Delhi, Calif., Victor Michalec of Fair Oakes, Calif., and Benny Michalec of Docton; two sisters, Mary Hanson and Eleanor Winnas, both of Delhi; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She and Paul Carroll were married February 8, 1937. He died in 1977. Mass was recited Friday at St. Catherine Catholic church with Fr. Scott Connolly officiating. Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet was in charge.
