Wahkiakum Eagle-August 1997 CARLSTAD, Elizabeth F. Age 92, of Colorado Springs, Colo. She taught at Wahkiakum High School from 1939-1942 and 1949-1953. She served as principal from 1949 to 1953. In 1949 she married Alvin Carlstad, a longtime resident of Cathlamet. He served as engineer for Public Utility District No. 1 of Wahkiakum County until 1953. She was born in Rawlings, Wyo., the daughter of Francis R. and Florence M. Fentor. She was a graduate of the University of Washington and worked hard as an English teacher to inspire appreciation of composition and literature in her students. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and wrote her memoirs as a gift to her family. She retired to Vancouver in 1970 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1994 to live with her son and his wife. Survivors include her son, Robert F. Strand, a sister, Constance F. Hiatt of Portland; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel R. Horton and her husband in 1967. Elizabeth F.
