Wahkiakum Eagle-January 1999 BURNSIDE, Thomas L. Of Elkridge, Maryland, died in Baltimore, Md. He was born in Longview. He graduated from Wahkiakum High school in 1994 where he was a National Honor Society and Future Farmer chapter member. A 4-year football letterman, he was an All State Offense and All League offense and defense honoree. He also participated in track and wrestling. He was a member of the Cathlamet Fire Department First Aid Division and as a first responder earned second place in the nation in the 1992 National FFA Achievement in Volunteerism Award program. He also earned the rank of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Washington State University where he was a member of the Cougar crew team and was named to the President's Honor list. He graduated from the John Hopkins University School of Nursing in May of 1998 and was employed as a registered nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at John Hopkins hospital. He worked with the Life Flight program where he was a caring, motivated and dedicated professional. He was a member of the Elochoman Grange, John Hopkins Alumni Assoc. He enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, hunting and Alaskan fishing. Survivors are his parents, Sheryl and Dan Jones of Cathlamet and Mike and Elizabeth Burnside of Vancouver; brothers, William R. Burnside of Seattle, Jeff Jones and Robert Rutherford of Kalama and John Jones of Longview; sisters, Jennifer Wheeldon of Castle Rock and Mary Rutherford of LaCenter; his grandparents, Tom and Cora Irving of Cathlamet; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Tuesday in Baltimore at the School of Nursing. A Celebration of Life service was Saturday in Our Saviour's Lutheran church at Puget Island.
