Wahkiakum Eagle-October 2003 BURDICK, Traverse 'Shadow' Age 90, died at Puget Island. He was born in Powell, Wyo. He moved to Big Fork, Mont., in 1913 and spent much of his life in various areas of that state before settling in the Bellingham area where he met and married Irene 'Boots' around 1940. The Burdick six children were born and raised in that area. During World War II he served in the Army at Bericia, Calif., in the San Francisco area. They returned to Bellingham later. In 1948 the family moved to a Cathlamet area dairy farm where he worked for a few years before becoming employed by Crown Zellerbach as a boomboat operator at the sorting yard. The Burdicks lived at Puget Island, Naselle and Cathlamet. After his wife died in 1991 he lived a few years at Acme, and returned to live at Eagle Point Village until he moved to an eldercare home for his final two years. Survivors include daughters, Meritia Sturtz, JoAnn Gust, Margie Moore, Patricia Sundahl, Trena Ash and a son, Travis and their spouses and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue Gwaltney; a brother, Henry Howe; a special loved one Gloria Armstrong and caregiver Beth Lorenzo. Burial at the cemetery was Thursday with Pastor Cliff Weimer officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
