Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-10 May 1950 BUHAKKA, John August An autopsy on the body of John Buhakka, Rosburg, requested by Mitchell Doumit, coroner, discounted any theory of foul play when it was revealed by Dr. Stramfjord of Astoria that Buhakka's death was due to drowning. The body of Buhakka, who was last seen Jan. 24 and reported missing on Jan. 27, was found last week in the sands of Clatsop spit near Ft. Stevens, approximately 15 miles from Grays River. The body was caught in rocks and was almost completely buried in sand in an upright position. The boat was found approximately 100 yards from the body in a badly damaged condition. Following the discovery and identification of the body Sheriff Harry Hayes and Mitchell Doumit, coroner, went to Astoria to investigate the circumstances. It was revealed that a hole in Buhakka's skull was not a gun-shot wound but had apparently been made some time after death, presumably when waves beat the body against rocks of the south jetty. Doumit stated that the findings of the autopsy eliminated any need for an inquest. Doumit and Sheriff Hayes expressed their thanks to Coroner Ray Luce, District Attorney Green and Sheriff Paul Kearney of Clatsop county for their part in the investigation. Funeral services were held in Rosburg on Saturday, where Buhakka's surviving father and five sisters live. Buhakka was born in Mt. Solo, Wash., in 1891, and had lived most of his life in Rosburg.
