Wahkiakum Eagle-October 2001 BROWN, Melvin Edward A former Cathlamet resident, died at the Longview Hospice Center. He was 80 years of age. He had lived in Longview for the past several years. He was born at Goodrich, Ida., the son of Warren F. and Nellie Dodge Brown. He married Estelle Bernice McKay May 8, 1942 at Wallace, Ida. The Browns moved to Cathlamet in 1956. He worked as a bulldozer operator in the logging industry. His hobbies included fishing, prospecting, hunting, playing pool, dancing and playing the guitar with his family. Survivors include his wife at home in Longview; two daughters, Anita Young and Julia Cripe, both of Longview; two sons, Melvin of Longview and Ben of Vancouver; four sisters, Dora Reynolds of Burley, Ida., Jeanie Mills of Boise, Verna Lambert of Seattle and Shirley Heath of Glens Ferry, Ida.; six brothers, John of Boise, Earl of Skamokawa, Harvey of Lowman, Ida., Warren of Maple Valley and Vince of Boise; 11 grandchildren and three great-grand-children. Funeral services were held Saturday at Steele Chapel in Longview with private inurnment. Pastor Mike Lamber officiated. Steele Chapel was in charge.
