Wahkiakum Co. Eagle combined with the Columbia River Sun-22 Mar 1945 BOYLAN, George Lewis Funeral services for him whose death occurred Sunday, in the Veterans hospital, Portland, were held at the Congregational church, with Rev. W. W. Head, a long time friend of the family, conducting the service. George was 40 years of age. He was born in Lincoln, Polk, Oregon, on the day of the Lewis and Clark exposition opening in Portland. He came to Cathlamet with his parents when about 1 year old where he has resided since. He entered the armed forces in Sept. 1942. He enlisted in the air force where he served 2 1/2 years, entering 3 days after his mother's death. He married Edna Fowler, a Kentucky girl who was visiting in California, May 22, 1944. In September of the same year he entered the Spokane hospital, later transferred to the Veterans Hospital in Portland. Thirty minutes before his death, he spoke of coming home in a few days to visit relatives and friends. During the funeral hour, most of the business houses of Cathlamet closed, out of respect to his memory. George Boylan was well liked here by young and old. He took an active part in athletics, and was score keeper for every ball game played by the home teams. For six years he was an active member of the Cathlamet Volunteer Fire Department. Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion, the pallbearers being: Alfred Stone, Elmer Stone, Frank Shuster, Paul Zollner, Don Maughan and Harry Galbraith. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Hatton's Funeral Home. A male quartet composed of Victor Bartholomew, Fred Olmsted, Stanley Petersen and Daniel Danielson, all of Puget Island, sang. Surviving are the widow, Edna; his father, W. E. Boylan; three brothers, Leonard of Cathlamet, Vernon of Portland, and Fred of Camas; four sisters, Rita Rodal of Cathlamet, Gladys Antonsen, Ona Perriza and Verna Farmer, all of Portland.
