Wahkiakum Eagle-April 2003 BOWLES, John Alfred Age 67, died at the hospice center in Longview. He was born at Seattle, the son of William A. and Priscilla Belle Holm (Randle) Bowles. He moved to Cathlamet in 1985. He served in the Marine Corps from January 22, 1959 until January 22, 1962. He was considered an excellent marksman. He worked for King County Sanitation for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. On June 27, 1986, he married Janet Hatch. She survives him at home. He loved to play the guitar and enjoyed fishing and boating, and reading; liked to putter on electrical and mechanical jobs and also enjoyed drafting. He was a family man and enjoyed his home. Survivors include his wife, at home; sons, Kenneth Bowles of Kennewick and Lonnie Lee Ayers of San Jacinto, Calif.; daughters, Kim Paul of Leeshburg, Penn., Kimberly Swidberg of Port Orchard, Tracy Flint of Monroe, Yvonne Kane of San Diego, Calif., and Theresa Tuls of Liberal, Kan.; sisters, Ruth Adams of Lake Stevens and Lucille Thompson of Renton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday at Dowling Chapel in Cathlamet, with Pastor Ralph Wood officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
