Wahkiakum Eagle-December 1988 Emily May Bjornsgaard Emily May Bjornsgaard, a native and former long-time resident of Skamokawa, died Dec. 13, 1988 in Vallejo, Calif. She was 99. The daughter of John and Etta May (Howe) Ellison, she was born January 2, 1889. She received her education at the old Skamokawa school, now called Redman Hall. Her grandparents, Samuel and Harriet Thompson Howe moved to the west from East Machias, Maine and were early Skamokawa settlers. The family had a store on the waterfront location of the present-day Vista Park. Mrs. Bjornsgaard moved to California to be with her daughter. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers Club of Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar and sons, Calvin and Homer. Survivors include a daughter, Elvira Barber of Vallejo, Calif., three grand-children and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral was December 19 in Portland. Burial was at Lincoln Memorial Park.
