Wahkiakum Eagle-June 1998 BERTLING, Richard Bernard Age 69, of Cathlamet, died at the Hospice Care Center. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Donald F. and Leona Eugena (Matz) Bertling and lived in Vancouver for 30 years until 1994. He and his companion, Pat Diotte, spent many summers at Elochoman Marina in Cathlamet. They spent winters in the Southwest. He worked as a machinist at Boeing Co. and Wagner Mining in Portland for many years. He retired in the early 1990's. He served in the Navy for four years. He enjoyed sailing and owned his own sailboat, the Windflower. He especially loved spending time with Pat Diotte who survives him in Cathlamet. Also surviving are four sons, Thomas of Wilsonville, Ore., James of Vancouver, Gerald of Austin, Texas, and Francis of Vancouver; a sister, Phyllis Friedemann of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. There were no services. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge. Burial place unknown 18 Apr 1929- 18 Jun 1998 (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society Museum)
