The Eagle-June 16, 1949 John Benson Services Held Funeral services for John Benson, a resident of Cathlamet for the last 36 years, were held in the Congregational church at 1:30 p.m. and Rev. F. G. Forrester officiating. Henry Johnson of Portland sang, accompanied by Miss Jessie Lynne Sawyer. Pall bearers were: Ole Nilsen, John Ronning, Harry Doumit, Leonard Larson, Henry Hansen and G. Braaten. Born in Sweden on June 15, 1872, he died on June 9 at the age of 76. A former member of the Columbia River Fishermen's union, he was a retired fisherman and a member of the Independent Order of Vikings of Chicago, Ill. Survivors include the widow, Berna, a daughter, Mrs. Helga Head, of Cathlamet; a brother, Christian and a sister, Anna, in Sweden; and two grandchildren.
