Wahkiakum Eagle-October 2001 BECK, Muriel Iris Age 85, died at a Longview medical center. She was born in Helena, Mont., to David H. and Violet Brown Wagner. A graduate of Seaside, Ore. high school in 1934, she lived in Camas from 1950 to 1966, when she moved to Puget Island. She was a secretary in the wood products industry during WWII and held several part-time jobs later when her children were in school. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Skamokawa and publisher of the church newspaper. She was a member of the Puget Island Grange, Cathlamet Woman's Club, the Republican Party, Last Tuesday Club and Legion Auxiliary. She served as Wahkiakum Fair Board secretary for many years and was the longest running fair board member, filling other positions as well. She was dedicated to her community and enjoyed gardening, square dancing and her home. She married Carleton Beck in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her in death were a son, David C. Beck, in 1991; a daughter, Catherine Antisdel, in 1968; a sister, Claudia Sterling, in 1998; a granddaughter, Sophie Beck, in 1988; and an infant brother. Survivors include a son, Richard of Puget Island; a sister, RaDeen Moberly of Redding, Calif.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Thursday from the Skamokawa Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Hammer officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
