Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-October 1996 BAILEY, Alfred Roland Age 74, died at his Long Beach home. He was born in Catardi, a small fishing village on the Columbia River downstream from Altoona. He was the son of Walter and Pearl (Pulliam) Bailey. He attended school in the Altoona- Rosburg area and graduated from Naselle high school. He served as a radioman with the US Army in the European Theater during WWII. Following his military service he returned to the Rosburg-Deep River area where he logged until 1961. He owned and operated Bailey's Saw Shop in Long Beach until retirement in 1987. Alfred and Helen Reese were married Sept. 12, 1957 in Shelton and established their home in Long Beach. He enjoyed beachcombing, hunting, and was an avid fisherman, and took great pride in his garden. His family will remember his hard work, commitment to his family, and his generosity to family and others in the community. He is survived by his wife of 39 years; son Greg Reese of Spokane; daughters, Sheryl Pearson of Rosburg, Charlene Crumley of Gold Beach, Ore., and Charlotte Anderson of Port Angeles; sister Doris Pearson of Rosburg; 13 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Ronald Reese in 1988 and by brothers Robert, Herbert and Clyde Bailey and a sister Mildred Bakkila. Celebration of life was on Saturday at the Peninsula Church Center in Seaview. Penttila's Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach was in charge.
