The Wahkiakum County Eagle-Published on Thursday, Oct 13, 2011 Irene M. Bacon Lifelong Puget Island resident, Irene M. Bacon, 90, passed away October 8, 2011 at Community Hospice. She was born March 17, 1921 on Puget Island to Hans and Malla (Cornelius) Olsen. She graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1939. On September 22, 1939 she married Oliver Bacon in Cathlamet, Oliver’s father presided the wedding; he survives her at home. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the Last Tuesday Club, the Wahkiakum Historical Society and the Orthopedic Guild. She was also active in several ladies groups on Puget Island, including pinochle club, dance clubs, boat clubs and RV clubs. Irene was employed at the County Extension Office and as a clerk at Wahkiakum High School from 1960 till her retirement in 1979, where she was well loved. She loved to entertain, visit with friends and travel. In addition to her husband, Oliver, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, her large extended Bacon family and many good friends. She was preceded in death by their son Donald Bacon on July 28, 1963; four brothers, Daniel, Oliver, Kenneth and Mervin Olsen; and two sisters, Ruth Vog and Helen Peterson. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., tomorrow (Friday) at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Cathlamet. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m., Thursday at Dowling Chapel. Private interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
