Newspaper Unknown-November 1988 BACKSTROM, Petrus E. Graveside service was held Tuesday in Portland, a Southeast Portland resident and long-time logger. He died at his home of pneumonia. He was 101 years old. He was born in Bingsta, Sweden. He immigrated to the United States in 1929 and married about 1950. His wife, Agnes V., died in 1967. For years he worked for Crown Zellerbach. By the time he retired in 1952, he had worked as a logger throughout the Northwest. After retiring, he worked as a gardener for 10 years. He was honored by Crown Zellerbach on his 100th birthday. He died two weeks after his 101st birthday. His brother, Erik E. Backstrom, 89, died in Sweden of a stroke two days earlier. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Anderson of Portland; three granddaughters, Margi Chadwick of Houston, Rubye Tesler and Barbara Anderson, both of Portland; one grandson, David Anderson of Portland; and five great-grandchildren.
