The Wahkiakum County Eagle-April 30, 2009 Cathlamet, WA Walter J. Armstrong Cathlamet resident, Walter James Armstrong, 85, passed away April 23, 2009 at Community Hospice in Longview. He was born September 6, 1923 in St. Johns to Arthur J. and Sigrid (Mickelson) Armstrong and attended school in Vernonia, Ore. He spent time in the European Theatre in the Army during WWII. In 1989 he moved to Cathlamet from Troutlake. He married Alvina Keilwitz on June 7, 1997; she survives him at home. Walt worked as a Cat Operator for several companies, worked construction for several years and lastly Oregon Ready Mix, retiring in 1985. He was a member of River of Life Assembly of God Church and was a devout and faithful Christian. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife Alvina, he is survived by a son Dany Armstrong; stepsons, Gary, Steven and Michael Keilwitz; stepdaughters, Susan Webb and Pamela Hight; a brother, Jim Armstrong; a sister, Jane Robbins; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a son, Denis Armstrong and brothers, George and Ervin Armstrong. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 15, 2009 at River of Life Assembly of God Church in Cathlamet. Memorial donations can be made in Walt Armstrong’s name to Community Hospice, P.O.
