The Daily News-May 1990 ANKETELL, Thomas, Jr. Former Wahkiakum High School teacher, of Cathlamet, died in a Seattle hospital at age 77. He was born in Detroit. He graduated from high school in New York, attended Yale University and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1938. He served with the Navy during WII and the Korean War, achieving the rank of commander. He received a teaching certificate from the Univ. of Montana in 1959 and taught English, Latin and French and was a tennis coach at Wahkiakum High School until he retired in 1978. He was a member of the Irvington Tennis Club in Portland, Longview Elks, Zeta Psi Fraternity, Masonic Lodge, Green Mountain Hiking Club, U. S. Tennis Assoc., Longview American Legion and the First Church of the Nazarene in Portland. He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Yarger of South Bend, Ind., and Noel Anketell of Washington C. C.; a son, Thomas J. "Stoney" Anketell III of Wolf Point, Mont.; and four grandchildren. A service was held Tuesday at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet. A second service was Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Portland. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
