Columbia River Sun- June 1, 1916-Page 3, Col. 2 Cathlamet, Wahkiakum, WA ANOTHER PIONEER GONE Samuel F. Albert, a former Sheriff of Wahkiakum county, died suddenly at his home here Monday morning from a stroke of apoplexy. He was found dead on the floor by his companion, Edward Carran, early Monday morning, upon returning after a short absence. The deceased was evidently stooping to get some wood from the wood box when he fell with his head in the wood box and died instantly, as a result of the attack. The deceased has been a resident of Wahkiakum county continuously for the past 35 years. He was Sheriff of Wahkiakum county in the territorial days during the years 1885 to 1887, and also held other public offices in the school district and town of Cathlamet. Samuel F. Albert was born in Trumbell county, Ohio, in the year 1848. His wife, Lidia S. Albert, (Lidia Sackett) died August 26th, 1903. Two children survive him, Cecil Eugene Albert, age 25 years, of Hollister, Cal., and Lela Albert, age 17 years of Santa Cruz, Cal. The deceased was well known along the lower Columbia River and respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church Tuesday. E. B. Hughes, the Astoria undertaker, having charge of the funeral arrangements. The remains were buried alongside that of his wife in the old cemetery just west of town. Samuel F.
