The Student Body of Wahkiakum High School The Student Body Association of Wahkiakum High School reorganized this year under the direction of DeForest Powers, who acted as chairman for the occasion. The officers for the semester were elected. Howard Martin was elected president; Walter Irving, vice-president; Barbara Healy, secretary; and Herbert Faubion, treasurer. The election for the second semester made two changes in the officers. Howard Martin maintained the presidency; Clark Ray, vice-president; Barbara Healy, secretary; and Walter Irving, treasurer. The members of the Student Boy have shown excellent pep in all of the athletics and other social functions of the year. The cooperation of the different classes has aided the Student Body in undertaking various difficult fetes. The parties given by the four high school glasses were brilliant social events, and will be remembered by all who attended them for a long time to come. Athletics have been made to pay this year, through the enthusiasm which the students have been transmitted to the people of the city. It was by the strong backing of our business men that we were able to hold the Championship game of Goldendale versus Wahkiakum at Cathlamet. Also much appreciation is shown toward the Bulldog Athletic Association, who have made it possible for us to carry on our basket ball season with very little expense. This year there was an ideal turnout for the high school play. It was difficult to choose one person for each part from the number that turned out because everyone had their good points. Such interest has never before presented itself to Dramatics. This year the Student Body sponsored a magazine sale for the purpose of raising money for the high school treasury. Not quite as much interest was shown in this as last year, however, we were able to deposit a tidy little sum in the bank. Although all of the members of the Student Body couldn’t turn out for the Oratorical Contest, six of them did, and we must say that these six students make their high school proud of them. The thoughts and ideas expressed in the orations were all very fine, and I must say, I think that the judges had a hard time trying to decide the places. There are more student organizations and activities this year than ever before, and we do hope that now the good work is started, it will continue to grow.
