Unknown Publication, Probably Skamokawa Eagle-1904 Skamokawa, Wahkiakum County, WA The Skamokawa and Altoona clubs played a game of baseball last Sunday afternoon on the new ground of the former. The diamond had been improved the past week and is now one of the best. The game was as full of ginger as one of Marm Goodrich’s cakes. Home runs were made several times, two bases quite often, and the ball flew in all directions. The Skamok’s had a new pitcher, an importation from Castle Rock, who is capable of playing a great game as soon the catcher Merrill gets on to his curves. C. Pickernel pitched a smooth, easy handout for the Altoonas and Will Elliott was behind the bat. Clifford Monroe umpired, and his decisions gave universal satisfaction, with but one exception, when the wind blew the ball over towards the East valley, and he let in the Altoonas. Hans Peterson, the mayor of Altoona, was present, as was Anton Peterson, Johnny Bailey, Wm. Hamilton and quite a number of others. Quite a number of the ladies came along also and enjoyed the game. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Skamokawa 1 1 5 0 1 2 1 2 x-13 Altoona 0 2 0 0 0 3 0 3 2-10 (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society Museum)
