Columbia River Sun-January 13, 1916 Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington Franchise Granted At its last session the city council granted a franchise to James G. West, of Cathlamet, to use the streets and alleys and all public highways in Cathlamet to stretch wires and other equipment for the purpose of transmitting electricity. The franchise was given for a period of twenty-five years, the city reserving the right to purchase the plant five years after establishment, or thereafter. Mr. West has been busy signing up contracts with the business men of the town to furnish for their establishments. The city council has also agreed to take a sufficient number of lights to light up the entire town. Mr. West will install his machinery and plant on his premises at the east terminus of Spruce street. The plant will be modern in every respect and will have sufficient capacity to light the entire town, including all business, houses and dwellings.
