Columbia River Sun- August 15, 1912- Cathlamet, WA DYKING PUGET ISLAND Arthur Seaborg and his neighbors on Puget Island are perfecting plans for dyking 200 acres of tideland. Arthur has 80 acres which he says can be dyked for a reasonable sum. He says the dyked tideland on Tenas Illahee island is a fine garden spot.---Chinook Observer. If a practical demonstration of dyking Puget Island be made the reclamation on the entire island would be effected in short time. Down at Tenas Illahee 100 acres of the dyked land is under cultivation this year and a perfect crop of vegetables is assured. The fertility of the heavy tidelands of Tenas Illahee and Puget Island is known far and wide. High water has prevented its use for producing crops. Some day someone will demonstrate the dyking proposition successfully on Puget Island and the low land ranches will increase tenfold in value.
