Columbia River Sun-January 13, 1916 Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington Worked Completed The construction work on the highway between Cathlamet and Skamokawa was completed by Sloane Bros., contractors, last week. The road presents a good piece of workmanship and when rocked will be the best stretch of road in Wahkiakum county. It will prove a boon to the people residing along the route and also to the residents of Skamokawa and Cathlamet. It is now only a dirt road and satisfactory service will not be had until it is rocked. Some repair work must be done along the route, as soon as the weather will permit, where the heavy rains caused slides to come into the road at several places. The total cost of the construction work, as it appears in the final statement of J. R. Newell, construction engineer, is $27,542.21. In addition to this sum must be figured the cost of right of way and also the cost of culverts and drain pipes, which will total approximately between seven and eight thousand more. The estimate of total work of construction as it appears in the final statement is as follows: Common 60,509 cu. yards Loose Rock 5,675 cu. yards Solid Rock 2,930 cu. yards Overhaul 27,711 cu. yards Clearing 35.3. acres Grubbing 7.90 acres 12-inch Pipe 980 lineal ft. 18-inch Plain 48 lineal ft. 18-in Reinforced 632 lineal ft. 24-in Reinforced 220 lineal ft. 30-in Reinforced 112 lineal ft. 40-in Reinforced 132 lineal ft.
