Columbia River Sun-April 11, 1918 Vol. XVII. No. 4 Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington-Page 1 Redmen Initiate Seven Quillis Tribe No. 60, Improved Order of Redmen of Cathlamet initiated seven new members into the mysteries of the order last Saturday night, which now give the local lodge 168 live members. The new members are Ernie Martin, Chas. McIntire, Pete Hendrickson and Roy West of Cathlamet, and Ben Van Buren, Ward Rice and Joe Berglund of Wauna. The local lodge has been making wonderful strides in membership since July of last year. On August 1st, 1917, the lodge had only 93 members in good standing and today has 168. It needs but eight more members to put it over the top for Four representatives to the Great Council of Reservation of Washington. Four or five candidates are in line for adoption at the next meeting, April 18th. The officers are confident that the goal, 176 members, will be reached by June 1st. The lodge also subscribed for $550 of bonds of the issue of the Third Liberty Loan. (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society 2005 from original newspaper collection.)
