SURNAMES S Everett Daily Herald 11/2/1955 Herbert A. Saylor, 87, of Rt. 1 Everett, died in a local hospital Tuesday evening after an extended illness. Mr. Saylor was born in Crown Point, IN, July 13, 1868, and had resided in the Everett area for 53 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Peninsular Lodge No 95, F.&A. M. and Palestine Commandery NO 11, K.T. Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Helen McBain of Los Angeles; two sons, Norman of Arlington and Fred of 844 Crown Dr.; one sister, Mrs. Ida Derrick of Green Bay, WI; two brothers, Gene of Iowa and Frank of North Carolina, and one granson. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Solie Funeral Home and will be announced later. Everett Daily Herald 17 September 1902 (Edmonds, Sept. 17) - Died, September 15th at 8:45 p.m. at the residence of her son, J. P. Schuester, in Edmonds, Mrs. Magdalena Schuester, aged 78 years. Funeral will take place from the family residence today at 10 a.m. Everett Daily Herald 8-7-1992 Winifred Barcot Scott, 88, Everett resident since 1932, died August 4, 1992, in an Everett nursing home. She was born April 28, 1904 in Valuka, Austria. She leaves her daughter, Kathy Sands of Tacoma, a sister, Mary Martin of Downey, Ca., her cousins Kay Scheller, Mary Lou Holtgeerts and Al Hogland; and her granchildren, Angela and Tony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Scott in 1978, and her brothers, Augie and Frank Barcot. A memorial gathering will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, at the McNab-Hogland house, 917 Webster, Mukilteo. Private graveside services were held at Evergreen Cemetery. Everett Daily Herald 4-11-1978 Guy Arthur Scott, age 76, of Everett, died April 10 in a local nursing home. He was born November 10, 1901 in Minden Mines, Missouri. He had been an Everett resident for the past 28 years. He was an Army veteran of World War 1 and a member of the Glad Tidings Chapel in Mukilteo. He is survived by his wife, Winnifred of the home; daughter Kathy Dea Sands of Everett; two grandchildren; brother Chester R. Scott of Kansas City Ks; One niece and one cousin. Mr. Scott was born 1887, in Tipparary, Ireland and has lived in Everett and Snohomish for the past 52 years. He was a member of the Bethany Temple Assembly of God Church and was a retired sawyer from the old Walton Mill. He leaves his wife, Lucy Ann at the family home; two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Maisie) Kazen of Anacortes and Mrs. Edward (Olive) Warden of 8921 Hardison Rd; two sons, William J. Scott of Medical Lake, Wa and Burl E. Scott of 2601 21st St. Everett; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Solie Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Daily Herald 12 December 1910 Fred J. SESSIONS died at his home, 2502 Rucker Saturday afternoon, after a brief illness. The funeral was held from Challacomb's chapel this afternoon, Rev. He is survived by two brothers in Oregon, and funeral arrangements await word from them. Everett Daily Herald 2/25/1910 Mrs. August Schroder, of Granite Falls, died this morning at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Mrs. Schroeder is survived by a husband and one son. The cause of death was paralysis. Everett Herald 1 September 1977 Wanda Hall Skordahl, 78, of Stanwood died Wednesday, August 31 at a Mount Vernon hospital. Montoe Monitor 27 Nov 1925 Drowned in Blackman's Lake Leon Smith, eldest son of Mrs. William Smith of Snohomish, was drowned in Blackman's Lake on Thanksgiving afternoon. As we go to press we are unable to get the details of this sad accident. Mrs. Smith is in the east, having left about a week ago. Leon is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Bennett of Monroe. Monroe Monitor 5 September 1957 Fog-Shrouded Pass Highway Accident Claims Life of Woman Laura J. Smith, Route 1, Monroe, was fatally injured on a fog-shrouded Stevens Pass Highway three miles west of here early Wednesday morning. The 22-year-old victim, recent bride of Allan Smith of Route 1, was struck by two vehicles - once while standing on the highway, and the second time while prone, the State Patrol reported. Mrs. Smith, a waitress at the Sultan Dutch Cup Cafe, died at 1:35 a.m. in he Monroe General hospital, an hour after the accident. Moments before she was stuck, the Patrol reported, Mrs. Smith had accidently backed her car in the ditch in an attempt to trun around on the highway. She apparently walked back on the highway either to flag down aid or survey her predicament. She was struck first by a pickup truck driven by Floyd R. Gettman of Wenatchee. Gettman told the Patrol he came upon Mrs. Smith suddenly in the heavy fog, tramped on his brakes and swerved to the left. The fruit laden truck skidded into the ditch on the opposite side of the road from the Smith car. The victim was struck down by the side or rear of the truck as it headed for the ditch. A second vehicle, a car driven by Berta Nokes, 65, of Seattle, then came out of the fog, hitting the prone woman. Mrs. Nokes told investigating officers that she was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the already injured woman. Everett Daily Herald 6/15/1936 Funeral services for Wilson M. Snyder, 83, president of First National bank in Snohomish and the oldest banker in the county, who died Saturday afternoon, have been set for Thuesday at 2 p.m. from St. John's Episcopal church. The Rev. W.G. Horn, rector, will officiate and interment will be at the mausoleum at G.A.R. cemetery. The casket will be open to friends only at the chapel of Bakeman and Whyte. Honorary pall bearers are W.O. Dolsen, Giles G. Cook, Dr. James A. Durrant, L.J. Hall, George W. Horn, P.A. Wright, William Mero and J.M. Ordway. Pallbearers will be Percy R. Trubahaw, Gilbert N. Turner, Frank Nickeman, W.N. Harman, R.M. Clagett and Ralph C. Cochran. Mr. Snyder was born May 7, 1856 at Galena, ILL, son of William H. Snyder, president of the Merchants National bank of that city. He attened the local schools and took two years of collegate courses at Heldelberg university in Germany. He treturned to Galena and entered his fathers bank. Mr. Snyder and his widow, Mrs. Nettie Henry Snyder were married April 20, 1882, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William T. Hnery, at Mineral Point, WI, her birthplace. Coming to Snohmish in May, 1888, Mr. Snyder was installed as cashier in the private bank of Jacob Furth and company, which had been started the previous year. The institution was chartered as a national bank in July 1888 and Mr. Snyder was its first cashier. He has been president of the bank since 1921. The family home is at 1012 Fourth street. Mr. Snyder was the last of the original board of trustees of the church, was its business manager in the early days and arranged for purchase of the land on Second street where the chruch edifice now stands. He was a member of Centennial Lodge #25, F.& A.M. of Golden Rod chapter No. 22 O.E.S. of Snohomish aerie No. 195, P.O.P. and the Everett Elks' lodge. Besides his widow Mr. Snyder is survived by two sons Henry M. Snyder, employee in the county auditors office, and Wilson M. Snyder Jr. of 511 Ave. B., one grandson Wilson M. Snyder III and two sisters Mrs. Charles Merrick and Mrs. Alice Snyder of Galena, ILL. Everett Daily Herald 11/3/1955 Services for Henry M. Soma b/3-22-1907 died 11-16-1985 Monroe Monitor 12 September 1957 Fifty-Year Resident of Monroe Dies Funderal services for William A. Soth, 51, Madison St., will be held Saturday at 1 p.,. in the Congregational Church. The Rev. George Kopper will officiate, and burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Purdy and Kerr. Mr. Soth died early Wednesday in an Everett hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Illinois on May 10, 1906, and came to Monroe 50 years ago. He was employed for several years as hedad gardener at the Washington State Reformatory. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; three sons, Fred and Vernon Soth of Monroe, and Pvt. David Soth, U.S. Army, now stationed at Fort Ord, California; Two brothers, Fred, Snohomish, and Sugust, Sultan; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bock, Monroe and Mrs. Lillie Verlinde, Rt. 1, Monroe. He was formerly employed as a machinist at the Great Northern shops. He leaves surviving his wife, Mrs. Nancy M. Stilwell, a daughter, Mr. J.L. McGhee, 2614 Lombard, a sister, Mrs. Wm. Everett Daily Herald 3/24/24 Mrs. Veezia Catherine Swabey, wife of L.A.W. Swaby, salesman of the Cascade Lumber and Shingle company died at the Snohomish hospital Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock following a surgical operation last week. Mr. Swabey resided with her husband and three children at 416 Cedar street. Her mother Mrs. E. Randall of Portland, Ore., also survive her. Mrs. Swaby was 30 years old and had made her home in Snohomish three years. Funeral services will take place Thursday. Swafford, one of the early pioneers of the Pacific coast, and a long time resident of Snohomish died this forennon after an illness of several weeks. He was born in New Boston, Illinois and was almost 63 years old. He crossed the plains in 1852 with his father, Judge Swafford, one of the prominent early day settlers of Snohomish. He graduated from the Pacific academy in Portland in 1868 and from the Northwest Business university in 1869. He located in Snohomish in 1881 and at once became identified with the activities of the place. He filled clerical positions in various county offices; deputy sherriff, and from 1890-91, postmaster. For many years past has been a trusted employee at Morgan Brothers mill. During his sojourn here he reared a family to maturity. He is survived by two sons, F.D. Swafford of Snohomish and William Swafford of Montana; also four daughters, Mrs. R.T. Byrnes of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Geo. Bott and Mrs Warren Williams of Tacoma and Miss Helen Swafford of Snohomish. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon. but the hour has not been fixed. Everett Daily Herald 4-30-1929 Mrs. Olive F. Swafford, 74, died suddenly at her home, 3000 Federal street, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Swafford was one of the earl pioneers of Snohomish county, coming here in 1881. She was a member of the Woman's Relief corps of Everett. She is survived by a son, Fred Swafford, living at the family home, and one son in the East; four daughters also survive, Mrs. George Coffman and Mrs. George Bott Jr. of Tacoma and Mrs. R.T. Byrnes of Portland, Ore.; one brother in Vancouver, Wa., and three sisters in Portland. Mrs. Swanson was born in Sweden, April 8, 1880. She came to the United States 41 years ago and had resided in Everett and Granite Falls for the past ten years. Surviving are her husband, Anton Swanson of 1132 Maple street; a daughter Mrs. Shirley Clavadetscher of route three Everett; three sisters Mrs. Selma Johnson of Eaton, Col. Mrs Hulda Christopherson in Denmark and Mrs. Sofia Anderson in Sweden; a brother, Lars Swanson of Eaton Col, and several nieces and nephews. She was born October 5, 1896 in Frederickstad, Norway, and had lived in this area for many years. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Joann) Anderson of Snohomish, Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Hughes of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Mrs. Leo (Opal) Montague of Vashon Island; son C. (Al) Swanson of Bellevue; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Friday, 10 a.m., in the chapel of Purdy and Wallace with cremation to follow. Everett Daily Herald 9/3/1913 Thomas O. Sweet died yesterday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Blanche Jones, on Friday avenue, aged 69 years. Mr. Sweet leaves three daughters, Mesdames Blanche Jones, Grace Jones and Della Wintermute, and two sons, Edward and Oscar; all are residents of this city. In these families six deaths have occured in the past five years. Mr. Sweet was a member of the Tribe of Ben Hur. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at Maulsby's chapel at 2 o'clock Rev. O.H. Swift Dead Chief Electrician at the Power House Dies of Typhoid After a Long Illness J. H. Swift, who for the past year and a half had been chief electrician at the power house died this morning at the home of his mother in Seattle. He had been ill with typhoid for five weeks. He was about 38 years of age. Mr. Swift was a member of Local 191, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and many Everett friends will deplore his death. Bott Jr. Tacoma lot owner) Everett Daily Herald 3/26/1907 Frank Tesmer a horseshoer was killed by electrocution yesterday while clipping a horse by electric power. He was holding the steel clippers in his hand when suddenly there came a blue stream from the steel. The man was thrown against the wall of the shop and died instantly. The horse was knocked down and also killed.
