Everett Daily Herald 12 November, 1910 Margaret DAGAN, aged 50, wife of Horace DAGAN, died this morning at the family home, 2127 Cedar street. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 from Trinity Episcopal church. MONROE MONITOR 1-6-1928 John Daly passed away on Thursday, January 6, at 4:30 in the morning at the Soldiers Home at Orting, Wa. Mr. Daly came from Ontario, Canada, to the west in an early day, after serving in the Civil war, and was at one time one of the landing lumbermen of Coos Bay, and also in Oregon. He and Perkins cut the timber off the present site of Seattle. Later Mr. Daly served for four years as an officer in the Oregon State Reformatory for Boys. He then came to Monroe where he served a term of serveral years as Monroe's first marshal. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow, Mrs. M. Daly who still resides in Monroe, and a son, Robert who is married and lives at Stanwood, where he is process man for the Carnation Milk Products Co. Monroe Monitor 9-9-1938 Mrs. Margaret Daly, a resident of Monroe for the past 38 years passed away at her home on South Ferry St. Sunday, following a long illness. Mrs. Margaret Wims was born in Trenton, Ontario, Canada 1-20-1857; had resided in the US 50 years. Surviving are a son Robert of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Mrs. A. Rickards, and three nephews, all of Seattle. Mrs. Daly enjoyed a wide accquaintance in and around Monroe, having been employed as telephne manager for one of the telephone companies here some years ago. Rosary was said in the Purdy & Whitfield chapel on Tuesday evening. Mass at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church. Rev. Father Galvin, celebrant. The remains were laid to rest in Mt. Everett Daily Herald 7-7-1919 Civil War Veteran John Buford Post Everett, Washington The funeral of Marshall J. Darling, who died at 9:30 the morning of July 8,1919, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Grace M.E. church on Summit Ave. Rev. Jorgenson will preach the funeral sermon. Marshall J. Darling was born at Groton, VT. April 28,1844. He was a member of the G.A.R. having served in the Civil war as a member of the 3rd Vt. Cavalry. He had been a resident of Everett for 27 years, and was engaged in the contracting and building business. He erected the first shingle mill ever built in Everett. He leaves a widow, Louisa Darling, at 2814 Harrison Ave. to mourn his loss. A sister, Lodema Morenton and a brother, Aaron Darling of Logan, Utah, also survive him. Mr. And Mrs. Darling were married Sept. 27, 1866, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Everett nearly four years ago. Mr. Darling leaves a large circle of friends in Everett won by many years of active business life in the community and by sterling qualities as a man and as a boy. MATHEW DAUGHERTY OBITUARY Post #10 Snohomish Mathew Daugherty, 89 years old, of Shorts district, a veteran of the Civil war, died Wednesday evening at Gale hospital, Monroe. Mr. Daughtery was born October 12 , 1837 in Tennessee and served during the war as a bugler in L company, Third regiment of New York cavalry. He resided the post six years at the home of his daughter Mrs. Charles Brumley, on the Monroe paved road. Others who survive him are two sons, M.G. Daugherty and David Daugherty in the East; four grandsons, Charles, Albert, Chester and Walter Brumley, and a grand-daughter, Blanche Brumley. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8 p.m. from C.H. Bakeman's chapel. The Rev. L.C. Shultz will officiate. Interment will be at the Snohomish Mausoleum at G.A.R. cemetery. (NOTE - died 6 April 1927) Everett Herald 1 September 1977 Clayton John Davis, of 1005 Wetmore, died Aug. 28. He was born June 15, 1916, in Kemmerer, Wyoming. He was a retired contractor and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Mabel K. Davis of Seattle; daughter, Mrs. Janet Bell of 620 Alverson; sons, Jerome C. Davis and Terrell Davis, both of California; Douglas J. of Seattle; brothers, Kenneth Davis of Seattle and Donald Davis of Missouri; sisters, Miss H. Marie Davis of Seattle and Mrs. Virginia McDonald of Port Angeles; and three grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly Sadler and Shannon Davis. Services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, 5701 8th NE, Seattle, with Carl McGrath officiating; interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Centralia. Arrangements under the direction of Challacombe-Fickel & Precht. MONROE MONITOR 2-2-1923 C.H. Davis of Tolt, age 72 years, died at Providence Hospital, Seattle Wednesday, Jan 31, after undergoing an operation for kidney trouble. Funeral services was held today in St. James Cathedral, Seattle, and burial in Calvary cemetery, that city. To the older residents of this community he was well known, and was well to do. He has a daughter residing somewhere in the middle west. Monroe Monitor 9-6-1907 LUCIEN DAY POST G.A.R. Lucien Day Post G.A.R. was organized last Friday by the veterans of the town and neighborhood, the mustering officer being Col., S.F. Street of Edmonds. The name was chosen in honor of their departed comrade, Lucien Day, who was long a resident of Cherry Valley and lies in Monroe cemetery. Meetings will be held the second Saturday of the month at 2 o'clock in Foresters hall. The following officers wre chosen: O.C. McGraY, commander; J.H. Pownell, senior vice; L.H. Peddycord, junior vice; S.E. Tallman, quartermaster; R.E. Pattison, adjutant; S.A. Buck, surgeon; J.H. Dennison, officer of the day; Eli Altizer, quartermaster sergeant; John Stafford, sergeant major. Snohomish Tribune 11-28-1934 Orting, Nov. 28 Daniel H. Delano, 94 fourth cousin of President Roosevelt, who claimed to be the West's oldest automobile driver, died at his home here yesterday. A former traveling salesman, Delano drove his car daily until October, when he became ill. He bought his first automobile 23 years ago. He was a life-long republican but too ill to go the polls November 3rd, he asked his wife to vote for President Roosevelt because "we have to keep things in the family if we can." Mr. and Mrs. Delano observed their 70th wedding anniversary April 4th. He was a native of Indiana. He attributed his unusual health to abstinence from Tobacco and liquor but refused to give a formula for martial happiness. Everett Daily Herald December 14, 1910 Mrs. Gertrude DENNIS, wife of Geo. DENNIS, died at the family residence near Red Crossing, Saturday. The funeral was held yesterday from the Baptist church. Besides the bereaved husband, three little children, one a baby in arms, mourn her loss. MONROE MONITOR 4-28-1916 OLD PIONEER DIES THIS MORNING Mrs. Mathilda Dennis, for the past sixteen years a resident of Monroe passed away at the home of her daugher, Mr. Lucy Erickson, 3835 Linden Ave. Seattle, at 7:25 o'clock this morning, after a long siege of suffering from heart trouble. She was born at Port Sarnia, Canada on March 11, 1841 and was married to Joseph Dennis in 1858. After living at Post Sarnia four years after their marriage they moved to Alppena, Mi., where they remained until 1888. In that year they moved to Seattle, and in 1900 came to Monroe, living on the ground now occupied by the Union High School until the property was sold. Mr. Dennis passed away about two years ago and since that time Mrs. Dennis has made her home with her children. She leaves to survive her four children; one daughter Mrs. Lucy Erickson of Seattle; and three sons Joseph, Henry and John. The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church Sunday at 2 P.M. conducted by Rev. J.McKean. Woodlawn Cemetery DIBB Henry W. 1855 1921 DIBB Eliza A. 5/23/1897 MONROE MONITOR 7-27-1934 Mrs. Margaret Dillon of Ferndale, mother of Mrs. harry Baly of this city, while crossing the road in front of her home, Monday of last week, was struck by an automobile and fatally injured. Mrs. Dillon was taken at once to St. Lukes hospital at Bellingham where she died two hours later. In her 71st year, hale and hearty, with a real zest for living, this tragic ending is indeed sad. She is survived by three sons and three daughters, ten grandchildren and one great granchild. Funeral services were held in Ferndale on Wednesday. From Monroe attending, besides Mr. and Mrs. Baly and daughter Betty, were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cummings and infant daughter. The monitor extends to Mrs. Baly and other relatives, sincere sympathy.. Everett Daily Herald 12 December 1910 Word was received in the city this morning by Mrs. George CLARK, of 3009 Hoyt avenue, of the death on December 4, of David DIXON, aged 72 years, at his late home in San Jose, California. Mr. DIXON had been a resident of Everett for seven years until last June, when he departed with his family for the South in the search of health. The DIXONS were members of the First Christian church of Everett, and at one time a daughter, Miss Josie DIXON, was affiliated with the Plymouth Rebekah lodge. The deceased leaves a wife, Emma DIXON, two daughters, Mrs. Fannie LENNON, of Walla Walla, Miss Josie DIXON, and a son E. C. DIXON. It is not decided when the funeral services will take place. Granite Falls Record 3-26-1926 Susie E. Dodge, who for the past thirty years was a resident of Granite Falls, died at the Everett General hospital, Thursday March 18th at 4 p.m. She would be 40 years old her next birthday. Mrs. Dodge had been failing in health the past three month. Surviving are her husband H.T. Dodge; two daughters Aileen and Tillis McCoy; her father D.A. Ritter, and two brothers Lloyd and LeRoy Ritter all of Granite Falls. The Funeral services was conducted at the Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Rev. W.H. Marshall officiating. She was laid to rest in the Granite Falls cemetery under the direction of Challacombe and Fickel. Granite Falls Cemetery Susie M. Dorgan received a telegram Monday from his brother, Tim, of Eugene Ore., announcing the death of their brother, Tom Dorgan, in Southern California, and that the remains were on the road to this place for burial. Later telegrams were received announcing delay in transportation and that the remains probably would not reach here until Saturday. In that event, the funeral probably will be held Sunday. Mr. Dorgan does not know any details as to the death, his brother being well when last heard from. He had resided in So. Calif. for about a year, having a homestead there. Sept 12, 1903 Mrs. Margaret Dorgan, wife of Timothy Dorgan, passed away Sunday morning after an illness lasting just one month. The funeral occurred Tuesday, services being held first at the residence and afterward at the Catholic church, of which deceased was a devoted member. Rev. Father Rourke officiated. A large concourse of friends, mostly in carriages, followed the remains from the residence to the church and thence to Harwood cemetery, the last resting place. Well known citizens served as pallbearers, namely; Thos. Moran, Simon O'Connell, William Shane, John Nelson, Frank Dempsey, and J.W. Johnson. Mrs Margaret Dorgan was born 67 years ago at Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. After immigrating to this country she resided with her husband at Saulte Ste. Marie, Mich., until 1899, when she and Mr. Dorgan moved to this place, where her sons, M.J. and Thos. Dorgan, established themselves at an early date. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are living (four boys and four girls), all of whom excepting one, were with her during the last illness. Deceased was a good wife and mother, and being confirmed in her faith, died most peacefully. The family seemed deeply impressed by the kindness of their friends during this affliction, and expressed special appreciation of the many tenders of assistance and the thoughtfulness of the mill owners in closing their plants the day of the funeral. Everett Daily Herald November 22, 1910 Freeman DORVAL, for many years an employee of J. CONNELLY, died last night at the Snohomish general hospital after a lingering illness. The time for the funeral has not been set. Everett Herald 5 September 1977 Norma L. Doty, 85, passed awy Sept. 4 in a Seattle hospital. She resided at 534 Dayton St., Edmonds. Arrangements are by Beck Funeral Home, Edmonds. SNOHOMISH COUNTY TRIBUNE 4-8-1913 about 20 years ago 4-8-1893 (date of news) News was received here on Saturday that Mrs. Nettie Dow, wife of W.S. Dow of this city, had died on Tuesday last at Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mrs. Dow, in company with her sister, Miss Maria Witherill, left Snohomish last August for Mexico, where it was expected she would recover her former good health. Dowell of Oakland, California; one sister and a niece at Snohomish, Wash., Mrs. Carrie M. Wiggins and Mrs. Edna Holden and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at Maulsby's chapel and the body sent to Oakland, California for interment. Mrs. Dowdell made her home for some time with her sister Mrs. Wiggins of this place. ALBERT T. DOWNING OBITUARY 12-13-1906 Post #10 Snohomish Albert T. Downing, of 2527 Rucker avenue, died this morning at the Everett hospital of cancer of the stomach. The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock. Mr. Downing leaves a widow and two children. He was a member of the G.A.R. Monroe Monitor 6-29-1923 John Duncan, age 81 years, passed away at his home in Monroe Sunday, June 24, after an illness dating back to Friday June 15, when he was taken ill rather suddenly. The immediate cause of his death was hardening of the arteries, tho from time to time within the past year or two he had occasional ills that tended to weaken the constitution naturally enervated by his advanced age. Deceased was a native of Nowhead, Fifeshire, Scotland and was one of a family of twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Duncan. When but a babe of one year, he with his mother, came to America, settling in NY state where his father, who preceded them to this country, had made his home. After five or six years there they removed to Wisconsin, where during the next seven years they resided thence coming to Mitchell county, Iowa, which place for a number of years was their home. From Iowa they removed to South Dakota settling in the vicinity of Huron and again returned to Osage, Iowa after a few years. Mr. Duncan was married in Osage, Iowa Feb. 24th, 1874, to Miss Anna Hobkirk. To this union a family of sons and daughters were born viz: Wallace Duncan, of Washington; Burton Duncan of Stanwood; Frank Duncan, of Everett; John Duncan, of Novelty; Robert Duncan of Monroe, and Mrs. R.D. Noble, of Osage, Iowa, all of whom, with the exception of Mrs. Noble, unavoidably absent, were present at the funeral, which was held Wednesday from the M.E. church, Monroe, Rev. F.M. Bushong officiating; the burial being in Odd Fellows cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. John Byington, of Rockford, Ill, were also present at the funeral. They are on their way home from a tour of California and Oregon. Mrs. Byington is a niece of Mr. Duncan. The last 15 years of Mr. Duncan's life were spent in Snohomish County, first in Marshland district and the past four years in Monroe. Mr. Duncan was reared in the Presbyterian faith, which he practiced throughout his life. He was a very worthy man, successful, and is survived by his good wife and a splendid family, who have the profound sympathy of this community because of the death of their beloved husband and father. The pallbearers were T.N. Bennett, M.W. Carpenter, E.T. Bascom, Lincoln George, F.N. Jellison, of Monroe and E.E. Purdy of Snohomish. Purdy & Sons directed the funeral. Everett Herald 5 September 1977 Coral F. Durham, 86, of Everett, passed away September 3, 1977, in a local nursing home. She was born on July 14, 1891 in Buckley, Washington. She had lived in Everett since 1893. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Everett, a former member of Everett Chapter 222, Orser of Eastern Star, Daughter of the Nile, BBodoura Club, first president of the Social Club of Everett Chapter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1965, and their only child, a son, died in childhood. Friends are invited to atttend services on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1:00 p.m. at the Solie Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangments under the direction of the Solie Funeral Home. Everett Daily Herald 29 October 1910 The funeral of Mrs. L. DWELLY, who died Wednesday after an illness of several years, will be held from Jerread's at 3 o'clock instead of 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
