(Town Intro) - A finely located town in the center of the great Puyallup hop region, is on the Seattle br. of the N.P.R.R., in Pierce county, 12 miles northwest [sic] of Tacoma, the county seat and 3 [miles] north of Puyallup, the nearest banking point. First settled in 1853 it contains a weekly newspaper. The Herald, Congregational, Christian and Presbyterian churches, two hotels, a saw mill, sash and door factory, drain tile works, good schools and an under the control of the Presbytery of Puget Sound. The I.O.O.F and W.C.T.U. are represented, hay, lumber, hops, and farm produce are shipped. Population 650, Tel., W.U. Exp., N.P. Mail, daily, I.T. Darr, postmaster.
