LEBAM

A farming and residential community on Highway 6.

Settlers first moved to the site in 1879 and called their little community Half Moon Prairie, or Half Moon Creek. The first settler on the prairie was William F. Meloy in 1879.

When the post office was established May 26, 1890, postmaster Jotham "Joe" Weeks Goodell was asked to supply a shorter name.  The town was later named Lebam, the reversed spelling of early settler J.W. Goodell's daughter's name, Mabel.

As the population grew each community had its own baseball team. Newspapers often made caustic remarks about the opposition. In a Raymond Herald of 1906, this was printed. "Lebam intended to whip the sawdust and tide mud off of Raymond but instead got the dust and moss whipped off of them. Just the reverse happened in the previous game."
