BREAKERS
Ilwaco railroad mail and passenger stop north of the City of Long Beach, 1901-1920.
J. M. Arthur built "The Breakers," a four-story hotel (December 1900), on the sand ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean and named it for the excellent view of the breaking surf. A fire in 1904 destroyed the hotel's original elegance. Arthur rebuilt the hotel but declining patronage eventually closed it in 1920.
A post office was established at the hotel August 17, 1905; discontinued March 31, 1919.
The Breaker's condominium, a modern facility, now occupies the site.
