In many instances (?) will denote that there is some likelihood of error.
Explanations and Common abbreviations used herein:

He was 70 years old. He was born near Odessa on Feb 12, 1927, the son of H. He married Janet Rodeck in Odessa on Dec 31, 1947, and they made their home on the farm. Although they retired from farming in 1992, when they turned over the farming operation to their son, Owen, they continued to live at their farm home. Ralph was a dedicated civic leader and worker. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa and helped spearhead the building of the congregation’s new church in the late 1950’s. He served in various capacities in the church and was a longtime member of the choir and men’s quartet. For many years he was an active member and a former president of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce. Each winter, he helped to organize and put up the community Christmas lights in the business district. Along with Janet and Owen, Ralph was instrumental in the construction of the addition on the north side of the Odessa Community Center, which extended the center the full length of a city block. This addition bears the name Heimbigner Building. Ralph was a past member of the board of the Odessa Union Warehouse Co-op. He was named a lifetime honorary member of the Odessa Gun Club for his part in helping to bulldoze and built on the site. He was an avid bowler for many years. Heimbigner, Raymond H., (d. 12-17-1997; b. 3-13-1918; TS; OC; obit) “Funeral services for Raymond Henry (Ray) Heimbigner, a member of a pioneer Odessa area family were held on Monday, Dec 22, at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa. Mr. Heimbigner, who was 79 years old, died on Wednesday, Dec 17, 1997 in Kennewick, where he had lived for the past several years. He was born at the family farm 7 ½ miles southwest of Odessa on March 13, 1918, the son of Henry G and Hanna (Zier) Heimbigner. He attended the Odessa schools, graduating from Odessa High School in 1935 and later attended Eastern Washington College. He was an accomplished athlete during his school years and throughout most of his life. He married Ruth Schauerman, of Odessa, on Dec 17, 1939, and they moved to Rathdrum, Idaho, to begin farming. In 1944 Ray and Ruth moved to Ione, Oregon, where they began farming operations as the Circle E Ranch. At the ranch, he was known for his innovations with farm implements. To avoid dust and chaff from the combine and tractor, he raised the operator’s cabs and controls by nearly eight feet. He also obtained a patent for a lifting boom which could be quickly attached to a truck hoist. He was actively involved in the Ione and Heppner communities. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Heppner. He was one of the first to serve as PTA president and was a member of the school board during the planning of a new school. He was instrumental in planning for a swimming pool. He played on the town basketball team for many years and was a referee for high school basketball games in the early 1950s. Ray was an avid water-skier. His ski boats, Fury I and Fury II, were equipped with electric ski reels he had designed and constructed. Every year, Ray put on the annual Labor Day water ski show at Hat Rock near Ione, with participation by the many youngsters in the area whom he had coached during the summer. The five-man pyramid over the ski jump was an act Ray’s ski students would perform routinely, but even today is not duplicated by professional ski shows. He also coached a trampoline team which performed at half times of basketball games and at the Oregon State Fair. As well as in sports, Ray and Ruth were involved in their children'’ and others’ activities in 4-H Club work, school plays, band, and even advising them with their term papers. Ray had a flair for writing and loved to share that ability. Many years before his retirement from farming in 1980, he began drilling wells and irrigating much of the ranch. He was known as an expert ‘water witcher’ in the area, and he was often called upon to find the best spot for a well. He once had a well drilled in the middle of the straight road to the farmhouse because his fishing pole indicated the good water was at that spot. After retiring, Ray and Ruth moved to Kennewick. After Ruth’s death in 1985, Ray lived with his son Tom Heimbigner and his family in Kennewick. He also lived for a time in Portland with his daughter, Linda Rae Vincent. He spent the last month of his life at Tom’s home in Kennewick and died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Rae Vincent of Portland; son Tom Heimbigner and his wife, Vicki, of Kennewick; grandchildren Mandy Lynn Heimbigner of Seattle, Jared Heath Heimbigner of Tempe, AZ, Travis Ethan Heimbigner of Kennewick, Jennifer Rae Ann Vincent of Pasadena, CA, and many nieces and nephews. besides his wife Ruth and his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, who died in infancy; Benjamin of Yakima, Elmer of Lake Jackson, TX, and Ralph of Odessa. Pastor Scott Jurgens of Christ Lutheran Church officiated at the funeral. Interment was at Odessa Cemetery. Casket bearers were Gary Heimbigner, Dennis Heimbigner, Mike Heimbigner, Owen Heimbigner, Frank Halvorsen and Joe Halvorsen. Strate Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.” (Odessa Record: 12-25-1997)

He was selected as Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year at a meeting in Ephrata this past summer. Reuben entered the Odessa hospital on Sept 18th and was transferred to the Deaconess Hospital on Sept 25th. He was in and out of the hospital since then, making his home at Alderwood Manor in Spokane. He re-entered Deaconess Hospital on Dec 14 and passed away on Dec 17, 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, in March 1966; two children, Verne Gene and Richard Arthur, who died in infancy; and two brothers, George and Adolph Heimbigner. Heimbigner, Ruth, (d. 4-12-1985; b. 12-04-1920; TS; OC; obit) “Ruth Schauerman Heimbigner of Odessa, born here Dec 4, 1920 to Conrad and Anna Margaret Schauerman, passed away April 13, 1985 at St Vincent Hospital in Portland. The youngest of eight children, she grew up in Odessa and graduated from high school in the Class of 1939. In school, she was active in tennis, basketball and track, and was a member of the swim team. Her first job was at the Odessa Bakery. On Dec 17, 1939, she was married to Raymond Henry Heimbigner in Odessa, and the couple moved to Rathdrum, Idaho to begin farming. Their daughter Linda was born in Spokane while the family lived in Idaho, and the three moved to the Heimbigner farm here, where they lived before going in 1944 to the Circle E Ranch near Ione, Oregon. Their son, Tom, was born at The Dalles. In 1979, Mr. and Mrs. Heimbigner retired and sold the Circle E, moved first to Ione and then, in 1982, to Kennewick, their home at the time of her death. In the late 1940’s, she contracted rheumatoid arthritis, a disease that was to be with her the rest of her life, but she continued to raise her children and help run the ranch. She was also active with the youth of the community, aiding in their exhibition shows of water-skiing and trampoline. When the children were at the University of Oregon in the 1960’s, trips to Eugene were frequent pleasures for her. After their move to Kennewick, Mrs. Heimbigner enjoyed watching television, particularly game shows. Throughout the past 30 years, she traveled to Portland each month for medical treatment, not only because of her arthritic condition but because of many years of heart disease. The treatment included open-heart surgery in 1978. Since her first grandchild’s birth in 1975, the grandchildren were the center of her life... Preceded in death by a brother (in infancy), she is survived by her husband, Ray, at the family home; by her son, Tom Robert, and her daughter, Linda Rae; by the four grandchildren; by six sisters: Lena Stuhmiller, Irene Nichols, Helen Schimke, Martha Bartalamay, Rosie Michaelson and Lauretta Fink; by a step-brother, Emil Roth; by three step-sisters: Martha Humphries, Vineta Weber and Luella Ducey; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held April 17 at Christ Lutheran church, Odessa, Pastor Daniel Cronrath officiating... Interment followed at the Odessa Cemetery under the direction of Strate Funeral Home. Casketbearers were Rod Nichols, Mike Nichols, Tom Bartalamay, Byron Fink, Mike Heimbigner and Owen Heimbigner.” (Odessa Record: April 25, 1985)
