(Brodin,  Mrs. Catherine (of Davenport) d. Aug 6, 1938; age not shown; pneumonia; Born: Wyoming; Burial: Davenport Catholic Cemetery. (Source: St Francis Catholic Ledger) “Mrs. Charles Brodin, age 33 years, passed away about 2 AM Saturday at Mrs. George Bair’s hospital here after about a week’s illness with pneumonia. She also was suffering from abscessed tonsils, and her condition had been critical for several days prior to her death, although she made a gallant fight.  Katherine Agnes Brodin was born at Colgate, Oklahoma, August 28, 1904, and moved to Gilcrest, IL, with her parents, when she was five years old. She also lived at Farmington and Peoria, IL, and came to Washington when she was 23 years old, residing in Spokane.  She was married to Charles Brodin in Spokane, Nov 26, 1927.  He survives her, as do four children ranging in age from one to ten years, including two daughters, Agnes and Marie, and two sons, Raymond and Charles Jr.  She is also survived by her father and a brother in Farmington, IL.  Mr. & Mrs. Brodin resided on a farm on Indian Creek for many years and following their marriage, and recently have lived on a farm in the River Homes region north of Davenport. Funeral services for Mrs. Brodin were held at the Catholic church in Davenport at 10 AM Monday, with the Rev Father John Coleman officiating. Interment was in the cemetery near Lincoln. Carey, A. :  Burial Sec 2 Blk 1 Lot 1 Space 5 “Albert Carey, aged 54 years, one of the best known characters around town and better known as ‘McKinley’, died at the room of Billy Sullivan, who cared for him throughout his illness and saw that he was honored with a respectable burial. The services took place at the church of the Immaculate Conception Saturday morning, Rev Father Pypers officiating. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The pall bearers were Billy Sullivan, Henry Payne, Cashus Cobey, Frank Avery, William Finney and A G Hard. Mr. Carey in his younger days was a fine physician and a leader of the best band in San Francisco. He was educated and had many friends. His remains were the first to be buried in the new Catholic Cemetery and the funeral was largely attended.” (Dav. Tribune of Aug 28, 1902)

Carpenter, Mrs. Patrick:  (TS) “Mrs. Patrick Carpenter of Creston died last Thursday evening after suffering a number of years of stomach troubles. She leaves a husband and three children, the Misses Mary, Martha and John to mourn their loss. She was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, and came to Washington in 1889 and settled on a farm, 8 miles from Creston, where they lived until recently, having moved to Creston to give the children the privilege of attending school. She was beloved by all who knew her and in losing her they meet with a great loss. She was buried from the Catholic Church Friday forenoon, her remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery.” (Davenport Tribune-July 16, 1908) Notes: Mrs. Julia A. Carpenter, age about 40, died at her home north of Creston. Her neighbors, Mrs. Wm Inman and Mrs. Elmer Inman were with her early in the night, but the latter had gone home. She was summoned to return when the sinking spell occurred, but arrived too late to be of assistance. Death came quickly and without a struggle. Mr. Carpenter was away from home and was called by telephone, but she was dead when he arrived. Dr Snyder was also called, but reached the house after life was extinct. (LCT-7-17-1908)

Davis/Davies, Ella Myrtle (TS) Badly broken tombstone with only Myrtle and the dates remaining. County birth records show Ella Myrtle Davis, born Mondovi on June 11, 1898 to Vespasian A. Davies, 26, born WI and Annie L. Brink, 19, born MO. Ella Myrtle was their first child. (Lincoln Co Auditor record)

The surname is not on the fragments of the stone that remain. The date of death appears to be May 21, 1909, but since the numbers are broken and eroded, it could read otherwise. A death certificate was not located under this name. By family report of Ella Myrtle Davis, this child died as an infant, not as a ten year old. The family submitted an obituary, the dates of which are not a perfect match, but reflect that a Davis child died in May 1899. Unfortunately, the initials in the obit do not match the parents, and with present information, the date of death for the stone is not conclusive. "Davenport, May 22.--An infant child of B A Davis died Sunday night. The funeral occurred yesterday." ( Spokesman Review: 5-24-1899, Monday; submitted by the family of Ella Myrtle Davis) One report indicates that the shape of the stone was a cross, but that is not likely, the width of the stone was about 6 inches, the thickness was less than 2 inches. Most early cross stones were about 4  inches wide by 4 inches thick.

Dugal, Emil: “Emil Dugal, the workman who was killed Aug 13 by being run over by a WWP auto truck, was buried in the Catholic Cemetery Monday evening, Father Fredericks officiating. A number of men from the WWP camp came in to attend the funeral services. Nothing was learned concerning Dugal’s relatives except that a brother resides in Missoula, MT and an uncle resides in Canada who is a bishop.” (Dav Tribune 8-21-13) “Emil Dugel, a stranger from Missoula, Mont., was killed at Mrs. Johns’ place just north of Davenport Wednesday evening by being run over by the Washington Water Power 5-ton truck. The truck passed over the man’s hips crushing the pelvis bones, death resulting an hour later.  Dugel, with a number of other men came from Spokane Wednesday afternoon and were going out to the WWP camp to work on the new power line when he fell from the truck in way, the wheels passing over him before a stop could be made. The body is at Stone’s undertaking parlors awaiting instructions from relatives in Missoula.” (Aug 14, 1913)  Burial in Sec 6.
