Lanborn, Charles:  “W B Armstrong, Harrington, country commissioner, filed a petition in superior court this week seeking to be appointed administrator of the estate of Charles Lanborn, Rocklyn farmer, who died in Spokane recently. The estate is valued at $1,000 and no heirs have been located.” (Odessa Record: 3-04-1937)

Lang, Herbert R.,  Jan 3, 1974

"Services were held in CA last week for Herbert R. Lang, who died in Cambria Dec 24. Born in Keller in 1907, Lang later attended Sand Flat and Davenport schools when his parents, Frank and Caroline Lang, farmed north of Davenport. A charter member of North Star Grange, he later owned and operated the Gerome ferry, store and post office and then the Gifford ferry, which he built. Survivors include three daughters, 5 grandchildren and two sisters, Margaretta Adams, Davenport, and Frances Duckey, Mercer Island." (Dav. Times: 1-03-1974)

Langford, Sherman, Sept 22, 1916

Sherman Langford, age 50, died at his home in Pullman last week from cancer.  “Cap” Langford, as he was familiarly called in Edwall, conducted a livery barn here for several years.  He was a charter member of the IOOF and was the one who proposed to call the lodge, Artesian lodge.  His many friends here regret his departure, and Mrs. Langford and Martha have the sympathy of their many friends here in their sad loss. Laughbon, May S.,  Dec 05, 1974

"Funeral services were held in Spokane for May S. Laughbon, who died Nov 28 in Davenport. Mrs. Laughbon, a long-time county resident, is survived by 3 children, Mrs. D. B. Hamilton, Davenport, Mrs. J. H. Preston, Centralia, and Lee Laughbon, Davenport, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She also had one great great grandchild." (Dav. Times: 12-05-1974)

Lawson, Christopher,  Oct 16,1925

“Christopher Lawson, a pioneer farmer of the Almira district was buried at Spangle where he died at the home of a daughter after having been kicked in the abdomen by a horse a week before. Mr. Lawson has been a resident of the Almira country for 25 years.” (Odessa Record: 10-16-1925)

LeClaire, Wenona, June 29, 1911

Little Miss Wenona LeClair of Spokane, who was taken ill while visiting Mrs. Bertha LeClair of this city last Sunday, died Wednesday in a Spokane hospital following an operation for peritonitis. Upon learning of her illness, her mother, Mrs. L. V. LeClair came down and took her to Spokane Tuesday morning. (D Tribune)

Lee, Lawrence, July 5, 1929

Lawrence Lee, age 7, son of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Lee of Pasco, was drowned at Fishtrap Lake Friday when he stepped off a pier. It was an hour before the boy’s body was found. Mr. & Mrs. Lee were camping at the lake. He is a brakeman on a work train stationed at Tyler. (Odessa Record)

Leipham, Mrs. P.,  (March 5, 1920 Harrington Citizen)

"Mrs. P. Leipham died Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Elliott. She came to visit her daughter and took the flu. Funeral arrangements have not been made."

Lemley, John C.,  d. Aug 11, 1939

"John C. Lemley. Residence: Mold, WA. Male, white, married, tanner. Age: 77 yrs 28 days. Spouse: Alice Lemley. Birth: July 14, 1862, Cheytogan, Wisc. Father: William S. Lemley, born OH. Mother: Dora Kline, born Hamburg, Germany. Informant: Beatrice Lemley. Death: Aug 11, 1939 at Gibson Hospital, Almira, WA. Cause: Heart failure, hypertension, renal disease. John Anderson, MD. Burial: Spokane; Undertaker: F. Eberry, Almira." (WA State death certificate)

Lemon, Richard, May 5, 1907

A dispatch from Kalispell, MT, announces the death of Richard Lemon/Lemmon—“Nigger Dick”—Monday while fishing from a steel bridge over the Kalispel River about 3 miles east of Kalispel. It is supposed that he became dizzy and fell into the river. He immediately sank and never raised again to the surface. Dick and his wife, Lizzie, were for a number of years residents of Davenport and up to the latter’s death about two years ago, resided in their little cottage home on Tenth Street. After his wife’s death Dick went to Sand Point, Idaho, and later to MT. (Dav Tribune)

LeRoi, Charles, Dec 18, 1919

Charles LeRoi, age 74, proprietor of the LeRoi hotel on the San Poil River at the mouth of the west fork of the San Poil, was found dead in his bed at the hotel Dec 1, the exact cause of his death being unknown. He was buried in Republic. The LeRoi Hotel was known far and near, the proprietor being an old hotel and mining camp cook, having conducted it for the past 12 or 14 years. He had no relatives in this country so far as is known, living alone when lack of business did not necessitate his employing help. He had been ailing for several months, and was in Republic for several weeks for treatment, returning to his home several days before his death. (Times-Tribune)

Level, Mrs. John A., Apr 22, 1909

Mrs. John S. Level was born in Grinnel, Iowa on Sept 2, 1865, came to Tumwater, WA in 1875 and to Spokane in 1880. She was married to John A. Level in 1882 at Rathdrum, Idaho. On Apr 6, 1884 they came to their homestead near Davenport. Mrs. Level had a twin sister, Mrs. Alex Shannon, who died on May 19, 1892. Mrs. Level was interred in Spokane following a Catholic funeral. Lewis, Kristin, Aug 30, 1973

"One 13-year old was killed and eight other passengers injured Aug 22 when the pickup truck they were riding in rolled off the road northeast of Davenport. Kristin Lewis, Route 3, Box 70, Davenport was killed instantly when she was thrown form the bed of the truck. Taken to Sacred Heart Hospital Center in Spokane with critical injuries were Agnes Auert, 9, and Nicki Auert, 8, both of the Route 3 address. Valerie Upham, 21, was also transferred to the Spokane hospital. Treated and released from Lincoln Hospital in Davenport were Michelle Myers, 2, and Aurora Alexandrowski, 14. Tonya Lewis, 9, and Julie Auert, 12, were released Friday. Jennifer Nelson, 7, was in satisfactory condition this week. All were also of the Route 3 address.... The driver, Carl S Rosato, 16, also of Route 3, apparently lost control of the 1971 pick-up and it went off the right side of the road, rolling several times.... Funeral services were held Saturday in Sandpoint, Idaho, for the dead girl, who was the child of Judy Jo Krupke, Davenport and William Lewis, Sandpoint. Other survivors includes her sister Tonya, and brother Michael Lewis, also of Davenport." (Dav. Times: 8-30-1972)

Littell, E. R., Apr 11, 1913

Bald Ridge, Apr 7.—Eugene R. Littell, born in Chenango Co, NY, near Warwick, May 9, 1842, died April 2, 1913. In 1862 deceased was united in marriage to Olive Herman and to this union was born 5 children, 3 dying in infancy. One son, William, at one time had a store in Davenport, and is now deceased, leaving one son, Leslie Littell, of Madison, TN, to mourn his loss, also one sister, May J. Flemming, of Pepin, WI, John Littell, of Estherville, IA, and Charles Littell, of Mondovi, at whose home he has been for the last two years. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church. At his bedside when he died was his son, Leslie, with his brother, Charles, and family. His son started for his old home at Estherville, IA, where it will be interred beside his wife and children who have gone before. (LCT)

“Notice has been received from the Eastern State Hospital for the insane by the County clerk of the death of Mary Lotte on Nov 11th. She was committed to that institution from Lincoln County on April 28, 1900.” (Citizen)

Mrs. Pauline Lovett, a pioneer of Waterville, died last week at the age of 80 years. (Dav Trib notes)

Elijah T. Lynn of Peach, aged 53 years, died Nov 18th. Bright’s disease of the kidneys was the cause of death. (Citizen)
