Davenport. Born on Feb 16, 1909, to William and Anna Piercy in
Baldenville,
Mass.
, she married Romeo ‘Red’ Couture, a first lieutenant in the Army Air
Corps, on Aug 2, 1943, in
Otter River
,
Mass.
She traveled with him to his military assignments. Their daughter, Martha,
was born in
Kansas City, MO, on his last active duty station. They moved back to
Massachusetts
for two years, then moved to
Casper,WY. Mildred was active in the PTA of St Anthony’s Parish. In 1972, they
moved to
Port Arthur,
TX. She developed an interest in planning and serving gourmet meals,
especially on holidays. Her granddaughter, Anna, was born in 1977.
Mildred’s hobbies of knitting, sewing and crocheting kept her busy. They
traveled all around the lower 48 states, finally making their home in
Davenport
in 1981 to be close to the family. She loved cats and Red-Factor canaries.
Until her illness kept her housebound, she took pleasure in seeing family
members in school and 4-H functions. She was preceded in death by her
parents and four sisters. She leaves her husband of 60 years, Romeo
Couture, of
Davenport; a daughter, Martha (Cash) and Jim Nunn of Potlatch, Idaho; a granddaughter, Anna Marie Cash, of
Spokane; a sister, Gloria Olivari, of Ashburnham,
Mass; and numerous nieces and nephews. Strate Funeral Home in
Davenport
handled arrangements.” (

“Evelyn
Fuller (57) passed away in Sutton Memorial hospital in
Sacramento,CA, March 13. Last rites were held from Klump’s Mortuary in
Sacramento
March 16, and burial was in a
Sacramento
cemetery. Mrs. Fuller,
the former Evelyn Kupers, was the daughter of John Kupers, Sr., and the
late Mrs. Kupers. She was born on the Kupers farm in the Mohler area (now
occupied by the Clarence Kupers). She attended the Harrington schools
and was graduated from
Harrington
High School. She worked in secretary work in
Spokane
for a time and the past 20 years was employed in that work at a Bank of
America in
Sacramento. Survivors include a son, Walter Douglas Fuller of Sacramento; a
grandson, Scott Fuller; brothers, John I, Walter and Clarence Kupers,
all of this community and Fred Kupers of Ritzville; sister, Mrs. Alice
Coffee, Spokane. Her father, John Kupers, Sr., is a resident at the
Lincoln Nursing Home in
Davenport. In November of last year Mrs. Fuller learned she was afflicted with
acute leukemia. She was hospitalized intermittently after that time, and
was confined to the hospital three weeks before her death. Mr. and Mrs.
John I. Kupers who spent the winter in
California
and
Nevada, visited Evelyn several times. They did not return for the last rites
due to illness in the family. Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Kupers drove to
California
about three weeks prior to her death, and spent a week with her.
Attending the services from here were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kupers, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Kupers, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kupers of Ritzville and Mrs. Coffee of
Spokane. Also present were Mrs. Gene DalPino (Kathy Kupers) who resides near
Sacramento, and Bob (Robert) Haskins of Monterey, CA.” (Davenport Times:

Hong was killed last night when the auto driven by Dr Corpening capsized a
mile north of town. The accident happened about 9 p.m. The two men were
found unconscious by Gordon Hensley, a farmer living near
Davenport
who was driving into Harrington. They were hurried to the hospital and
about 11 p.m. Mr. Hong was put in an ambulance and started for
Spokane
but died before they got to
Davenport. His head was badly cut and his body was terribly crushed. He never
retained consciousness. Dr Corpening was taken to
Spokane
today and later reports are that he is not badly hurt. His head and chest
pained him and his left wrist is either sprained or broken. Mr. Hong was 62
years old and a native of Norway. The last 27 years were spent in
Washington, about 18 of which he lived in Harrington. He had many friends and was a
peaceful, law-abiding character. The IOOF lodge, of which he was a member,
is in care of the remains. His relatives have been wired but replies have
not yet been received. The community has never been more shocked than at

Huber, 70, Spokane, was buried in
Riverside
Park, Tuesday, June 7th. He had been with the Northern Pacific
for 40 years and in early days when A. Sandygren, of Downs, WA, was at the throttle of a locomotive, Peter Huber was his fireman. Mr.
Sandygren is now 73 and quit railroading many years ago, but he knew all
of the old timers and as far as possible keeps in touch with their
whereabouts, their doings, and their passing. Mr. Huber’s home was at
E615 5th. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Mabel Amann of Pasadena,
CA; Mrs. Margaret O’Hare of
Spokane; two grandsons, Jack Amann of
Pasadena
and Gordon DeFoe of Spokane; one brother, Frank Huber of
Wardner, ID, and one sister in
Germany. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, at 9 a.m. from the Sacred

Lois Maxwell officiated and cremation followed. Mrs. Huffman was sister to
the late Perry Miller, who was father of Mrs. Glen Biggart. Surviving Mrs.
Huffman is her son, Murray Jack Huffman of

“Rev
M. E. Hunsberger, 97, retired minister of the Evangelical United Brethren
churches, died last week Wednesday at W1208 Knox, Spokane. Mr. Hunsberger
pastored the local church in 1921 when it was the Evangelical church,
before the merger with the United Brethren church. Born in
Port Huron,
Michigan, he had lived in Spokane and the
Inland Empire
almost half a century. His pastorates were in Yakima, Harrington, Reardan, Valleyford and Edwall. Earlier pastorates were in
North and South Dakota
. He retired from the active ministry in 1943… Mr. Hunsberger has been in
failing health for some years and was bedfast the last three. He and his
wife Mary Ellen, who survives at the home, marked their golden wedding in
August, 1958. They were married in Cavalier, ND. Five of their seven
children survive him, three of them being connected with the ministry. A
son, Capt. Paul Hunsberger, is a chaplain at Ft Lawton, WA; and two
daughters are wives of pastors, Mrs. Robert S (Esther) Vogt,
Pleasanton, CA,
and Mrs. William J. (Madelyn) Gold of Richmond, VA. Mr. Gold (‘Billy’)
was reared at Harrington, and during his early ministerial years, pastored
the Lidgerwood Evangelical United Brethren church of which Mr .Hunsberger
was a member. Another daughter is Mrs. Don C. (Ruth) Sleeth, a
Spokane
nurse. A younger son, Wayne, survives in
Bellevue. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at
Lidgerwood EUB church with the pastor, the Rev C Arthur Cobb officiating.
Burial was in
Greenwood

Emma L. Lambdin who has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. E. A
Allin in recent years, passed away Tuesday night at a
Spokane
hospital where she had been taken for treatment following a severe
illness of two weeks. Born in Cincinnati Jan 2, 1850, Emma L. Hartshorn
was united in marriage to William T. Lambdin Nov 27, 1872 and the couple
celebrated their golden wedding at the home of their son, W. T. Lambdin Jr.
of
Lewiston, Idaho, six years ago. During these long years of married life Mr. and Mrs.
Lambdin made their home in Cincinnati, Ohio,
Green Bay,
WI, and
Spokane, WA, coming to
Spokane
in 1904. Mr. Lambdin preceded his wife in death by two years. Surviving
their mother are three sons and two daughters; also eight grandchildren,
most of whom will be here for the funeral.
Known everywhere for her friendly spirit, her patience and
thoughtfulness for others were apparent throughout her recent illness.
She was a member of the Congregational Church and of the Eastern Star,
maintaining her connection with both organizations in New Richmond, WI.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 from Smith and
Co's chapel in
Spokane
in charge of Rev E C Scott with interment at Fairmount

Ethel Larson. She was 84. Mrs.
Larson was born Nov 8, 1904, in Creston, to Levi Syria and the former
Rettie DeBord, the oldest of three children. The family moved from Creston
when Ethel was six to the
Spokane
Valley, and she graduated from
Opportunity
High School
in the early 1920s. She then attended
Cheney
Normal School
from which she received her life teaching certificate. During the course
of her life she taught in
Enterprise, Kahlotus, Fruitland, and Hunters, and she retired from Hunters in 1965.
On Dec 30, 1930, she married Randolph Larson in
Pasco, and on Jan 6, 1943, the couple became the parents of twins, Don and
Dorothy. They raised their family on the Larson family homestead in the
Enterprise area near Fruitland; Ethel lived in this home 59 years, from the time of
her marriage until the end of her life. She died last Thursday, Aug 10,
1989 in Davenport….She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law,
Donald and Linda Larson of Fruitland; her daughter, Dorothy M. Larson of
Pullman; 2 grandchildren…; one brother and sister-in-law, Ermin and
Beulah Syria of Wenatchee; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and
friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ranny on March 19, 1979,
and her sister, Beulah in the early 1920s…” (Davenport Times:

Hubbard, Oregon, in June. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner are driving to Hubbard today to attend the

graduate, she served as editor of the Davenport Times-Tribune during
part of WW II, moving to

in 1943. She had written for the Spokane Daily Chronicle 31 years. A
nationally known horse judge, Mrs. Lewis was a charter member of WA State
Horsewomen, a past president of the Spokane Press Club and a member of
the Spokane Editorial Society. She was also a founder of the Diamond
Spur Rodeo and an honorary member of the Spokane County Sheriff’s
Posse. Survivors include her husband Jack,
Spokane, and an aunt, Ruth Gately, Harrington, and another aunt, Lulu Long,

Friday of Mrs. M. A. Logsdon, age 69 years, for many years a resident of
Davenport. The funeral was held Monday, and she was buried in the

Cemetery

. Mrs. Logsdon, whose maiden
name was Annie McCoy, was born in
Summerville,
Texas, July 23, 1870. She was married to G T Logsdon at Decatur,
Texas, March 18, 1886, and they came to Larene shortly afterward. They moved to
Davenport
in 1896, and lived here until 1914, when the family moved to
Santa Barbara, residing there since. She
is survived by her husband, G T Logsdon, a daughter, Mrs. Elmira Simmons
and seven grandchildren, Mrs. Minera Larsen, Edward, James, Helen, Jeanne,
John Jr., and Ethel Ann Simmons, and one great grandchild, Robert Larsen,

service for Ricky Lorentzen, 52, Davenport, were scheduled Tuesday, Nov
11, at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Spokane. Mr. Lorentzen died Nov 6
at his
Davenport
home. At the age of 3 he moved with his family to Spokane, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from
Rogers
High School
in 1969. After graduating, he worked for a fencing company in
Oregon
before returning to
Spokane
where he worked for Master Halco Fence Co. until moving to
Davenport
15 years ago. While living in Davenport, he worked at Cenex/Traders until his health forced him to retire. He
continued to live in
Davenport
until his death. He enjoyed fishing, the casinos and his grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his mother, Verna. He leaves
his wife, Kathy; his father, Donald Lorentzen, of Moscow, Idaho;
two step-children, Elaine Potvin of Davenport, and David and Melissa
Potvin of Spokane; four grandchildren; a brother, Terry Lorentzen, of
Spokane; two sisters, Christy Osborne and Michelle Dane, both of Spokane.

Grand Coulee dam, died on Tuesday night, 15 hours after a heart attack. His body is to
be shipped to
Lexington,
KY, for burial in the family plot.
Mason
was chairman of the Mason-Walsh-Atkinson-Kier company, holders of the
contract for the $63,000,000
Grand Coulee
foundation dam. He also was president of the Silas Mason company, which
was established by his grandfather in 1830. Work at the dam will progress
without any suspension of activities for a tribute to Mason.” (Odessa

McKean of
Spokane. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at
Davenport, a member of the board of directors of Whitworth college, a former
Presbyterian minister, having organized the Presbyterian church at
Moscow
forty years ago, and resigning from the pastorate of the same owing to
ill health. Since then he has been engaged in the real estate and loan
business until three years ago. The remains were shipped to the
Turnbull-Merager undertaking parlors,
Spokane. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev W. L. Killian of.Portland,
OR, officiating. Burial in
Greenwood
Cemetery. Old timers will remember of seeing his local running in The Citizen
for loans. He was in business associations in

“An
attempt to miss a box in the highway Sunday evening caused a one-car
accident that sent four people to area hospitals, one who died later.
Authorities say the vehicle was totaled. Halena Pedersen, 58, of
Davenport, was transported to Deaconess
Medical
Center
by Med Star helicopter with critical injuries. She died Monday of those
injuries. She was a passenger in the 1989 Oldsmobile driven by her
husband, Keith A Pedersen, 64. According to authorities, Keith Pedersen
was eastbound from Reardan when he swerved to miss a cardboard box that
was in the road. The swerve caused him to lose control and the vehicle
rolled one and half times, ending on its top. Keith Pedersen was also
taken to Deaconess and treated for bruises and abrasions. Two other
passengers in the vehicle, Melanie and Donny Barr of Reardan, were also
injured. Both were taken to
Lincoln Hospital
, where they were treated and released for bumps and bruises.
All four passengers were wearing seat belts, according to the
report given by WSP. Reardan
Rescue, both Davenport
ambulances, deputies, Washington State Patrol, Reardan Police and Med Star
answered the call that came into the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office at

Verne A. Spicker, a retired Methodist minister, died at a
Yakima
hospital, Saturday night about 8:30 o’clock. He was husband of Mrs. Addie
Strickler Spicker. Mr. Spicker was stricken with a series of light strokes
about a week prior to his death. He and his wife were in a car accident last
summer, in which she sustained a fractured hip and he received supposedly
minor injuries. However, he was never as well afterwards. Funeral services
were held at Yakima
Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Spicker’s daughter Hazel flew up from
Los Angeles

Infantry regiment, Third army, arrived in

Tuesday. He died April 19,
1944, in the battle for
Rome. He was the only son of S. O. Stambaugh of Creston and the late Mrs. Stambaugh.
He was graduated from Creston high school in 1938. Three sisters survive
him, Mrs. Thelma Billingsly, Wilbur, Mrs. Vera Carpenter,

time. She married Floyd Stoner on Feb 13, 1928 and they had six children. She
lived most of her life in Eastern Washington, most recently in

near her son Ed and his family. Mrs. Stoner is survived by three daughters,
Virginia Lindhag of Rosalia, Marlene Lynch of
Spokane
and Mamie Greeson of
Jackson, TN; two sons, Harry Stoner of Colfax and Ed Stoner of
Davenport; 25 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Bill Stoner, and three grandchildren.”
