Kriegler, Joseph 1-12-1934 "Joseph Kriegler Answers Final Call. Joseph Kriegler died at his home in Spokane, W735 Chelan, Saturday, Jan 6, 1934. He would have been 68 years old his next birthday, Feb 18. He had resided in Spokane for the past 16 years; was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 34, Spokane, Scottish Rite bodies and the Shrine. He was one of the first members to join Laurel Lodge No. 119, F & AM, at Harrington, and from here transferred his membership to Odessa when their Masonic lodge was instituted. He is survived by his widow, Lois, at the home; one son, Joseph E of Harrington and two grandchildren, Stanley and Patricia Kriegler; two sisters, Mrs May Alme and Mrs Frank Fiebiger, both of Casselton, North Dakota. The funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan 10 at 1 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home, the Rev W S Pritchard officiating, with the Rose Croix. Interment was in Riverside Park mausoleum. Among the pall bearers were Grover C Schoonover of Harrington and L C Weik of Odessa. Joseph Kriegler was born in Bohemia, near the German boundary line and spoke the German language. When nearing the age of 18, the draft age in that country for military service, which his father and he resented, he decided to make a move. One night he and his father walked across the line into Germany. The father returned to his home in Bohemia, but the young man did not. he remained in Germany a short time and then took passage for America. Arriving in the United States, he farmed for a short time in Minnesota and subsequently engaged in the mercantile business in North Dakota. Following the death of his wife when Joe Jr was only 2 ½ years old, the father came west and located in Odessa, Washington in 1900, and continued active as a merchant all his life until Joseph Jr had completed his education and graduated in business administration from the University of Washington, at which time the son took over the active duties of the Harrington Lumber Company, where a portion of the Senior Kriegler's business interests had been centered. From then on the father, though yet active in the general overseeing of business, retired from the more strenuous activities. Following the loss of his first wife, Mr Kriegler remarried and the son knew no other mother than his step-mother, who is a real mother to him and he is a real son to her. Many inborn virtues possessed by the departed one made large for his success in business and his wide circle of friends. He possessed a likeable personality. He was agreeable, courteous, obliging, generous, kind and honest; an interesting and logical conversationalist and with all a keen business mind. He was a good citizen, a loving and faithful husband and a generous, painstaking father and friend. During the past few years, as he descended the western slope toward the sunset of life, his health failed rapidly, and for many months past he had been confined to his bed, requiring constant attention, and yet, considering his condition he still clung to life when there seemed to be no hope. His loss is keenly felt by all who knew him. The Citizen extends sympathy to the bereaved ones." (Citizen: 1-12-1934)

Willard, Johnson  1917  "Mrs Edgar Hill Falls Heir to $50,000. Father Dies with Fine Estate and No Other Heirs Except Harrington Woman. Monday, May 14th, Mrs Edgar Hill and daughter, Geraldine, and son A W Hill, accompanied by his wife, went to Milton, Oregon, to attend the funeral of J M Willard, who died at his home near Milton May 13th. Mr Willard was the father of Mrs Edgar Hill and leaves no other relatives. The fortune which he left will fall entirely to her. The amount has not been finally determined but $17,000 in cash have been located and he owned 520 acres of land. The following clipping from the Walla Walla Bulletin gives further information: 'The funeral of Johnson M Willard, who died suddenly Sunday, May 13th, at his home eight miles southeast of Milton, was held yesterday at the M E Church, Rev F A Downs officiating. The funeral was in charge of W S Munselle and burial was in the Bowlus cemetery by the side of his wife who died some four years ago last August. The deceased was a pioneer of this section, having come here in 1864. Soon after he made homestead entry on the property where he died and which as been his home. Since his wife's death the aged man has lived alone and as no one was present at the time he died, it is presumed that death was due to heart failure, judging by the fact that neighbors found the body a short distance from the house. Although valuable securities, deeds, caches of money, etc., to the value of some $50,000, have been found in the effects of the dead man, it is said that he lived in want of the bare necessities of life. The deceased was 86 years of age, and is survived by but one child, Mrs Edgar Hill, of Harrington, Wash.' The party returned to Harrington Saturday. According to Mrs Hill's son: A W Hill, his mother's plans are indefinite as yet but they may move to Milton. 'The coroner went through things and found several hundred dollars in cash in different places in the house,' said Mr Hill. 'Some was in his pocket, some in a vest pocket hanging in the kitchen, and some in the room where he slept. Still more was hid in another bedroom. They thought they had it all but I found $160 in a cartridge box in one corner of the room on the floor. I would not wonder but that there is more to be found there'." (Citizen: 5-25-1917)
