Lowell James Armstrong
Former City Resident Dies In Portland
"Friends of Lowell J. Armstrong, former Goldendale resident, learned early this week of his death in Portland last Saturday.
Funeral services were held from the J.P. Finley chapel in Portland. He died from injuries received in a fall on an icy sidewalk at his home.
A graduate of Goldendale high school in the class of 1910 Mr. Armstrong was an exceptional athlete. He participated in basketball and football in his high school days and
played shortstop on the old Goldendale town team. In his high school days he was known as "Pug" Armstrong.
He was a member of the Goldendale post of the American Legion and served in the Army during World War I. At the time of his death he was traveling freight and passenger agent for the Santa Fe railroad.
He is survived by his widow, Matilda; one sister, Betty Byrand of Los Angeles; his mother, Mrs. Esther Armstrong, of Portland; and an aunt, Mrs. C.F. Kayser, of Goldendale."
