John Stapleton
"DIED
Stapleton -- In Salem, Oregon, on Saturday, September 29, 1900, John Stapleton, of Independence, aged 67 years, of cancer of bowels.
Deceased was a native of Canada, and came to Oregon in 1864, settling on a farm near Independence, where he resided until his death.
He leaves a wife and eight children, all grown. They are: Thomas B. Stapleton, Goldendale, Washington, Mrs. Mary Deaton, Salem; Mrs. Ella Miller, Vancouver, Washington;
George W. Stapleton, Portland; Mrs. C.L. McDonald, Lewiston, Idaho; D. P. Stapleton and James T. Stapleton, Independence. Miss Josie Deaton, night operator at the
Salem telephone exchange, is a granddaughter of the deceased. All of the children except Thos. B. Stapleton and Mrs. McDonald are here at present.
The remains were taken to Independence where the funeral took place today."
