George Darland Passes Tuesday In California

"Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in Gridley, Cal. for George Darland, 77, former Klickitat county commissioner. Mr. Darland died at his home in Gridley early Tuesday morning.

He is survived by his widow, May, of Gridley; two sons, William and Lee Darland, both of Goldendale; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Nugent, of Gridley, and Mrs. Roy Adam, of Vulcan, Alberta. One sister, Mrs. Sara Jones, of Salem, Ore., and two brothers, Charles Darland, of Salem, and Jim Darland, of Latah, Idaho.

Mr. Darland had been in failing health for the past six months. He came to Klickitat county in 1877 and lived here continuously until 1920 when he moved to Gridley. For many years he operated a farm in the Crofton Prairie area. He served one term as a county commissioner in 1913-14. During his term as commissioner the Maryhill road was constructed through the cooperation of Samuel Hill.

Mr. Darland was born in Salem, Ore., and came to this county as a youth. His last visit to Goldendale was made last summer."
