Samuel and Hattie Southworth Family Note
(Note: The following is information that I have gathered on the Samuel Southworth family. They are not my family, and conclusions are based on speculation, with the hope that they spur further research to confirm or rule out these suppositions. – Ellen Rowley)
Samuel Sampson Southworth was born on March 12, 1845 in Mansfield, Tolland County, Connecticut. He married his wife Hattie Jane Rice in 1873 in Massachusetts. Hattie was born April 9, 1853 in Massachusetts.
In the 1920 census, Samuel and Hattie were living in Woodland, Klickitat County, Washington where Samuel was listed as a carpenter. They were living with their son Charles H. Southworth and his wife Wilhimmena.
Samuel died on February 1, 1921 in Klickitat County, Washington and is buried at the Goldendale IOOF cemetery. His wife Hattie passed away many years later on March 10, 1950 in Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington.
She is buried at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, Whatcom County, Washington. Link to
Hattie's findagrave memorial.
(Note: There appears to be no gravestone for Samuel Southworth; however, the caretakers at the Goldendale Cemetery identified the space (seen in the photo) between James Blakey and Robert Witzke as Samuel's burial site.
Samuel is buried in the legion section of the cemetery.)
