The Emma [Rowns] Monroe Family Notes:

The earliest information so far found by this researcher is that John Rowns (Roune) came from Canada in 1895 along with his sister Emma and her husband Paul Monroe (Munro/Munroe). They settled in a small town named Marysville in the Sound area. The Monroes purchased a hotel; however, soon after Emma was taken very ill. Her husband Paul went to Seattle to exchange their Canadian money for American money. He disappeared and they never heard of him again. Emma considered herself a widow from that time.

John Rowns and his sister Emma and her daughters then relocated to Klickitat County, where they lived in Goldendale, Centerville and the general area for many years. (The 1900 US Census cites them residing in Centerville, Klickitat County.)

The 1910 Census shows the family living in Centerville. On March 28, 1914, Adeline Monroe (daughter of Paul and Emma Monroe) married Axel Randall on March 28, 1914.

On January 5, 1916, Emma's daughter Velma married Frederick P. Richardson. The marriage was witnessed by Etta Monroe and Robert Richardson.   (Although I found no online digital records of either Velma or Adeline's marriages, they are both listed in the "Marriage Records of Klickitat County, Washington 1867-1917" written by Homer JE Townsend and Patricia A. Scarola.}

On June 14, 1916, Emma's daughter Etta Monroe married St. Lawrence in Goldendale. WA Marriage Records

Emma's brother John Rowns (Roune) died on January 17, 1928 in Centerville at the age of 73. He is buried in the Centerville Cemetery beside his sister Emma Monroe.   Click for Uncle John Rown's Obituary. According to WA Death Records, John's parent's names were Esther [Martin] and Adam Rowns.

Emma passed away on October 5, 1933 according to WA Death Records. A Findagrave Memorial for Emma Eliza [Rowns] Monroe is listed in the Centerville Cemetery beside her brother John Rowns.   The memorial cites her birth as occurring in 1861 in Canada and her father's name as Adam, and it is likely her mother's name was then like her brother John's... Esther [Martin]

December 28, 1966, Esther Ann (Etta) [Munroe] St. Lawrence (eldest daughter of Emma and Paul Monroe) passed away in Pasco, WA. Findagrave Memorial.   Esther [Munroe] St. Lawrence is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Goldendale.

The October 12, 1972 issue of The Goldendale Sentinel (column 1) cites the obituary of Adeline Munroe Randall, daughter of Emma Monroe. Adeline married Alex Randall. The Randall family eventually moved to Boring, Oregon, where Adeline's husband died. Adeline returned to Klickitat County and passed away on October 8, 1972. WA Death Records and Soc Sec Death Index.   Adeline [Monroe} Randall is buried in the Centerville Cemetery.

Velma [Monroe] Richardson passed away in Boring, Oregon on December 8, 1972. Obituary (See Column 4).   Velma [Monroe] Richardson is buried in the Mountain View Cemtery in Goldendale.

On October 8, 2003, Velma and Fred Richardson's son Theodore "Ted" James Richardson died in Goldendale: Obituary.
