About Franklin County
Franklin County was formed out of Whitman County on November 28, 1883, and is named for Benjamin Franklin. The county is located in southeastern Washington and is a semi-arid region. The neighboring counties are Grant, Benton, Adams, Walla Walla, Columbia, and Whitman.
Per the 2010 US census, the population was 78,163. It is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Washington. Per Wikipedia, "from 2000 to 2010, Franklin County increased its ranking from number four to the fastest growing county in the State of Washington in terms of percentage of population change/increase."
Franklin county's largest city is Pasco, which is also the county seat. Other cities include: Basin City, Connell, Kahlotus, Mesa, and West Pasco.
Pasco is about 6 miles away from Kennewick, Washington, which lies in Benton County. Additionally, Pasco is one of the "Tri-Cities," which is a mid-sized metropolitan area made up of three neighboring cities: Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland, as well as West Richland. In addition to three main cities, the cities lie near three rivers: the Yakima, Snake, and Columbia.
