The Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan's Oldest Burial Place of Pioneers: Inscriptions 1903-1992

In 1994 the Chelan Valley Genealogical Society published a 161-page spiral-bound book, The Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan's Oldest Burial Place of Pioneers: Inscriptions 1903-1992. This big job was carried out by volunteers Maureen (White) Thompson, Linda (Clayson) Bradley, Linda (Wall) Martinson, and Rhea (Flick) Gilbert. The book contains a lot of information, including an alphabetized listing of burials (giving burial dates and lot owners), row-by-row readings of inscriptions for the North and South Fraternal Cemeteries, a separate section on military veterans, and burials in the older Mt. Olivet Cemetery. There are also maps, modern and historical photos, old newspaper articles, deeds and land records, historical information about the fraternal organizations, undertakers and tombstone engravers in the Chelan Valley. All surnames are indexed. For lookups of individuals with indexed surnames, email Joanna Ashmun (jmashmun@halcyon.com).

To purchase The Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan's Oldest Burial Place of Pioneers: Inscriptions 1903-1992, send $20.00 + $5.00 for tax and shipping and handling. Checks should be made to Chelan Valley Genealogical Society, PO Box Y, Chelan, WA 98816.

Newspapers - The Chelan Leader and The Chelan Valley Mirror

All the Chelan newspapers are on microfilm (from the Chelan Leader to the Chelan Valley Mirror - issues dated 6 Aug 1891 through 29 June 1994) in the Chelan public library. There is a microfilm reader/printer there. The CVGS genealogists will gladly copy specific articles with specific dates, for anyone, for costs and postage.
