WALTER, SCHILLING, BENNER
I am searching for WALTER Family information. John Jacob WALTER came to USA from Walter, Russia, in 1912 and settled in Ritzville, Adams County WA. He married Christina SCHILLING there in 1915; his parents were listed on the marriage record as John Jacob WALTER and Anna M. BENNER. He was working for the City of Ritzville when he died of pneumonia in Jan. 1930. The 1920 Federal census of Ritzville lists: John J. WALTER, age 27, came to USA in 1912, born in Russia. Also in that Ritzville census is Anna M. WALTER, widow age 58, came to USA in 1912, born in Russia. Lena WALTER, daughter, age 17, came to USA in 1912, born in Russia. Elizabeth WALTER, niece, age 8, born in WA., parents were born in Russia. All listed as speaking German and cannot speak English except Lena who spoke German but could also speak English. In the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery record is Anna Marie WALTER born 1862, died 1940, this appears to be the same Anna M. WALTER that is listed in the census. Do you know if this Anna M. WALTER was Anna M. BENNER, mother of John Jacob WALTER? If not, were they in any way related? I would appreciate your help.

By 1910, John is married to his 2nd wife, my grandmother, Jennie Mary HOLFORD, and is farming near Ritzville, Adams Co WA. They are listed there with children in the 1920 census.
Until recently I was under the impression that grandpa John was buried in Spokane WA, but now find him listed in the Ritzville Memorial Cemetary, along with several other Kramers who are probably his parents, siblings, etc.
I would be interested in any information on John's parents or siblings. My mother, John's youngest daughter, never remembered meeting any of them. I have information on John's second marriage and the children thereof to share.

RICE
Isaac RICE died and was buried somewhere in Adams County on 27 Sep 1904/05. My attempts thus far to verify the date of his death and the place of his burial have been unsuccessful. Suggestions are that he may be in the Sand Hills Cemetery or the Michigan Prairie Cemetery. But, since these are no longer in use I do not know who to contact about their burial records. Any information concerning the death or burial of my great great grandfather, including the names of the cemetery custodians, local history/geneological associations, old newspapers where obituaries might be found, or the particulars of RICE families still in the area, would be gratefully received.

TESKY
Looking for early ancestors that may have settled in Adams County or in eastern Washington. Last name of TESKY also may be of any of the following spellings: TESKE, TESKI, TESKEY.
Also seeking any information on both the railroad grade crossing of TESKE and the old grain elveator and silos located at the site. It lies apx. 20 miles east and a little south of the town of Ritzville. Some maps show it but others do not. I did find the place and spent about 2 hours looking around. I am also interested in finding a copy of both volumes of the History of Adams County, if anyone has it for sale. The library in Ritzville has a copy. I was able to spend some time looking thru some things in Aug 1998 in Ritzville but was unable to get into any of the churches in town because of a funeral.

BRUGGER, DOWNEN, UTLEY, SCOTT, RAYBURN, GASKILL, OVERCASH, LASWELL, PHILLIPS, SCHOENWALD
I am seeking information from descendants who may still live in Adams County about Henry BRUGGER's father, William BRUGGER. Henry homesteaded in Adams County. I have information about Henry's mother, Rachel DOWNEN, which I will gladly share. Thanks for any help.
Henry BRUGGER, b. 15 Nov 1859 in Mount Vernon, Posey Co., IN; d. 20 Sep 1943 in Eugene, OR; m. 16 Jan 1881 in Indiana, to Rachel Victoria UTLEY. Henry, with his wife and first son, William Herman Brugger, travelled in 1883 by train from Indiana to Oakland, California; then by boat to Portland, Oregon; then to Colfax, Washington, where he was a constable, built houses as a carpenter and mason, and combined (harvested grain) in Garfield, Washington. He homesteaded in Adams County, Washington, where he raised wheat and had a dairy at Hatton on Brugger Road. In 1905 Henry rented the homestead to Mr. Roy Scott and moved to Post Falls, Kootenai Co., Idaho, where he bought 10 acres, built a home in town, then built a bigger home on the 10 acres. He planted an orchard and vegetables, and sold the produce in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 12 miles away. Henry and Rachel had nine children, six of whom reached adulthood: Ethel G. (BRUGGER) SCOTT, b. 1883; Iva (BRUGGER) RAYBURN, b. 1887; Rachel Victoria (BRUGGER) GASKILL, b. 1890; Mary (BRUGGER) OVERCASH, b. 1892; John Lester BRUGGER, b. 1896; Zella "Sally" V. VAN MARTER
Lind, Adams County: I am trying to find information on my grandmother Margaret/Margareth/Margaretha VAN MARTER, i.e. what is her first name? I have a copy of her death certificate and can't tell if it is Margareth or Margaret, but as a corollary of "Murphy's Law" says, the item you want to really check is written so that you can't really be sure which it is. (Is that squiggle a loop in the "t" or an "h"?) No luck in getting her birth certificate from the state of Iowa, either. Her burial record in the Lind Cemetery is under her husband's name as "Mrs. Vet Van Marter" and I doubt that there was any obit for her because she died in the 1918-9 flu epidemic (12 January 1919) leaving a critically ill husband and three children, ages 2, 4 and 6. Any ideas? The children were sent to their aunt and uncle, Annie and Henry Van Marter, near Spokane. Thanks,

SMITH
Seeking information on James SMITH and his sons Thomas B. (T. B.) SMITH, Laurence Houston SMITH, and Charles Milton SMITH. James moved to the Adams/Franklin Co. area sometime after 1882 following his wife Rebecca Jane MATHEW SMITH's death in 1876 in Union Co., OR. Both James (d. 1914) and his son Laurence (d. 1904) are buried in Delight Cemetery near Lind. Charles, who was a twin to Laurence, is said to have moved to Australia following Laurence's death. James was married about 1909 to an Elizabeth L. (from 1910 Adams County federal census records). I have not found any marriage records for the sons.
